Amazon-android

Things are really winding up for the Amazon Appstore, and the Developer Blog is proof of that fact. In the last few weeks, the blog has been a hotspot of activity about Amazon's newest creation, and quite a few details are revealed. As I'm not a developer, I'm simply going to pull out the highlights of the posts - let's take a look.

  • When submitting an app, developers must include two icons (small @ 114x114px, large @ 512x512) and a minimum of three screenshots (854x480), with a maximum image size of 3Mb.

The LG press conference just started, and we're here, covering it live. The Internet is very slow, so hopefully we'll be able to keep up.

The Android dev team has generally been assumed to have a passive stance on rooting and unlocking Android devices. That is, do it if you want - we won't stop you. And there's certainly evidence abound supporting this - Google's Nexus One could be unlocked via a simple ADB (Android Device Bridge) command: fastboot oem unlock. The same is true of the Nexus S.

Of course, it only makes sense - Google doesn't want to put any unnecessary barriers between Android developers and the open source OS, especially on developer phones.

Sony_Official_PlayStation_App

It's not the PlayStation-related Android announcement we were hoping Sony would make, but the Official PlayStation app is still (sort of) intriguing in and of itself. Version 1.0 of the app will be coming soon to both our beloved Android Market and the iOS App Store, though we here in the States will be left out of the fun initially. For those lucky enough to live in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, or the Netherlands, (the areas where the app will be available upon launch) here's what you have to look forward to:

  • Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.

Buzz Voice

The team behind Buzz Voice, a service that converts posts from your favorite blogs and news sites into speech, and previously available exclusively in the Apple ecosystem, has been working diligently for the past few months to release a version for the Android OS. The good news finally came this past weekend, when Buzz Voice for Android was officially announced.

This contest is now over. We have selected the winners - see if you are one of them towards the bottom of the page.
