The problem with designing a feature around other services is that you only have control over your end. If the other guy changes something, you have to be ready to fix any issues that crop up. Such is the case with HTC's BlinkFeed stream. A recent change to Facebook caused social updates to stop appearing in BlinkFeed, but now HTC has released an app that should solve the problem.

Come on HTC, save some surprises for the event! We're mere hours away from the announcement for the new HTC One and the nuggets keep rolling in. This time it's a pair of fresh-faced apps on the Play Store: BlinkFeed Launcher and the HTC Service Pack. At present, both apps are incompatible with the HTC One released in 2013, suggesting they may either be intended exclusively for the m8 or Sense 6, or HTC is restricting downloads until after the event. The HTC One is pretty great, and HTC has had no problem vividly illustrating its hardware features. Now they've moved on to the software in a pair of 30-second TV spots. The ads are all about BlinkFeed, HTC's proprietary social/news stream, and the centerpiece of the Sense 5 user interface. The commercials get right to the point, showing that other phones make you "dig" for information and content, while the mighty One with BlinkFeed puts everything you want right there on the home screen. It's no secret around these parts that we find HTC's advertising to be a little lackluster. Which is a shame because its hardware is not. For what it's worth, the company's CEO agrees and plans to ditch the "quietly brilliant" slogan for the One and instead shoot for the themes of "bold," "authentic," and "playful."
