Update 5/31/12: Verizon is pushing out this 4.0.4 update to devices now.

Galaxy Nexus LTE owners, listen up: the day you all have been waiting on is finally coming. Yes, I'm talking about the update to Android 4.0.4.

Verizon just pushed details of the update to the GN's support page, which means that the update is imminent. Aside from .4, the update also brings a handful of enhancements:

Email, Messaging & Data

  • Email messages will display properly when the text size is set to large.
  • When sending a multimedia message to an Outlook email address, the file extension will send, allowing the recipient to successfully open an image.

Verizon customers will want to keep an eye on their inboxes today, as big red has begun sending emails to select customers offering a free upgrade to Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, Stratosphere, or Motorola's Droid RAZR with a new 2-year agreement.

The email is presumably being sent out to those customers who have a 3G-only plan, or who haven't made the jump to a smartphone yet, judging by the following snippet of text, though it's hard to be certain exactly who qualifies for the deal.

“There’s never been a better time to move to 4G LTE – Upgrade to your FREE 4G LTE smartphone today!”

The Next Web rightly notes that while the offer may seem bold for offering customers discounts between $99 and $299, it is likely that promoting 4G data plans will pull in enough cash to make the deal worthwhile.

The rollercoaster ride that has been the Droid 4 release timeline is finally coming to an end. We first heard that this device would be released back in December, but Moto/VZW halted it for some reason, so we've since been waiting. Release date rumors have come and gone, but we caught wind of the 2/10 date about a week ago, and it turns out that it was spot on.

The D4 was announced at last month's CES conference, but if you need a spec refresher, here it is:

  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Android 2.3.5 (Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgradable)
  • 4-Inch "scratch-and-scrape resistant" display
  • 16GB internal memory, Up To 32 GB microSD card supported
  • Full five-row QWERTY
  • 8MP rear shooter with 1080p HD Video Capture
  • 4G LTE Capable

The D4 will be available in Verizon stores and online beginning on 2/10 for $199.99 with two-year agreement.

It was disheartening when Verizon found and plugged the loophole that gave users unlimited data, but Big Red's latest promotion may get users flocking to its doorstep once more.

Similar to its earlier double data promotion, new or existing customers will get double the data (4GB in total) when they buy a 4G LTE smartphone from Verizon and sign up for a new $30 data plan, together with voice and texting.

Verizon is also hoping couples will take advantage of its buy one get one free promotion ahead of Valentine's Day. You can pick up a Droid Razr or Droid Razr Maxx and get the second one, of the same value, for free!

The LG Spectrum is probably one of the most impressive phones that you'll find with a sub-$200 price tag in the current market. It may not be packing the insanely powerful NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, but don't sell it short - it's a sleek device.

  • 4.5-inch 1280x720 display
  • 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB built-in storage, microSD card slot
  • 8MP rear shooter, 1.3MP ffc
  • 1,830mAh battery
  • Android 2.3.5 (Android 4.0 update promised)
  • 4G LTE

It landed on Verizon just one short week ago for the reasonable price of $200, but that just wasn't good enough for the guys at Amazon wireless.

Update: We all knew it was coming, so this shouldn't come as a shocker to anyone -- Verizon found the loophole. Not only has the "issue" been fixed, but Big Red is now taking the necessary steps to revert changed plans back to their tiered state. Sorry, guys - it was worth a shot.

So, you signed up with Big Red after it switched over to tiered plans, and now you're envious of all your friends who flaunt their unlimited data all over the place. Want to shut them up quickly by getting some unlimited data action of your own?

It seems like this is becoming a weekly habit, doesn't it? Big Red 4G LTE devices across the nation are once again without data services (mine included).

It appears that this just happened, so there's no word from VZW as to when we can expect data services to be restored. We'll keep you posted on any new information as it comes along; until then, I hope you're around a Wi-Fi network.

Update: Some users are reporting that 3G is still working, while many others are reporting no data whatsoever.

Update x2: Verizon is aware of the issue and had this to say:

We are investigating reports of some customers experiencing trouble accessing the 4GLTE network.
