Yesterday, we told you that the Acer Iconia A500 tablet was available at Best Buy for $450, but if that wasn't your cup of tea, to wait one more day. That day has passed, and now the 16GB ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is available for $399 making it the most bang-for-your-buck Honeycomb tablet on the market. While the Transformer may be a very economical Android tablet, that doesn't mean that Asus skimped on specs:

  • 10.1 Inch 1280x800 IPS display
  • 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB Storage
  • 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
  • Honeycomb

It looks like the 32GB version isn't available just yet, as I couldn't find it on Best Buy's website.

Earlier this month we told you that the Acer Iconia A500 would be hitting the Best Buy sales floor on April 24th for $450 and, well, it has. If you need a refresher on the tablet's specs, here you go:

  • 1GHz Dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 10.1 inch, 1280x800 screen
  • 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera
  • 16GB Storage, SD Card Slot
  • Android 3.0

The $450 price tag brings it in at around $150 less than the WiFi version of the Motorola XOOM, but if you're looking to save even more cash, then you may want to wait until tomorrow and grab the $400 Asus EEE Pad Transformer.

HTC Flyer

Everybody's favorite non-Honeycomb tablet is inching closer and closer to its US launch. The WiFi-only version of the HTC Flyer will be available for pre-order exclusively from Best Buy starting this Monday (April 25) for the rather competitive price of $499. It may be lacking in a dual-core processor, but hey, at least it won't be identical to the upcoming flood of Honeycomb tablets.

For those who have been paying attention, it's pretty clear that the mobile space is exploding, thanks largely to the rapid adoption of Android, iPhone, and, to a lesser extent, Windows Phone 7 devices. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Best Buy is planning to expand their stand-alone Best Buy Mobile brand by 600-800 locations over the next five years.

Best Buy's been a fairly major player in the Android space, often offering phones at a steeper discount than the carriers in order to attract new customers.

Canadian Android

If you travelled back in time to the middle of 2010 and asked your average Canadian about the selection of Android devices available to them, you would not be impressed with their answer - it seems that up until this year, the Android selection in Canada was about 6 months behind the curve.

Canadians, myself included, can now stop bemoaning their second rate options. As of today, two major new devices, the Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom, have been made available to those in the Great White North.

sprint

A short while ago we reported on a rumour that suggested that the Nexus S 4G was coming to Sprint. It has now been officially confirmed that Google's second Nexus phone will be coming to Sprint in the next few months.

Just a couple of days ago I was ranting at Best Buy's preposterous announcement that they were going to hike the price of the HTC Thunderbolt, starting on March 20, from its launch price of $249.99 to a staggering $299.99. Apparently someone in the land of BB thought twice about this plan, as the folks over at Droid Life bring us news that the retailer is now changing its tune.

thunderbolt fishy

Just when we thought that news about the HTC Thunderbolt was going to die down now that the mystery of its long-anticipated launch has been solved, word comes that Best Buy will only be offering the LTE phone at the $249.99 price until March 20 -after which it will be $299.99. While the phone has generated a lot of buzz, it's hard not to view this price hike as Best Buy shooting themselves in the foot.

Offers and Promotions - Best Buy Reward Zone

If you are looking to grab a Nexus S sometime soon, you might want to check out this deal from Best Buy. The retailer has just offered Google's latest flagship phone for $99.99 with a 2-year T-Mobile activation.

The deal on the Gingerbread-running smartphone runs from now until March 23, so you have a couple of weeks to take advantage of it. It looks like you have to be enrolled in Best Buy's Reward Zone program to be eligible and the promo on their website lists the offer as being "in store only." Those interested can head over to Best Buy for details.

Among all the Thunderbolt delay rumors, here comes the latest one from the Roseville Best Buy #129. Their Twitter account, currently followed by 372 people, tweeted a few hours ago that the launch has been delayed further than we were anticipating - till Thursday, March 4th.

If true, this means earlier rumors of the February 24th and 28th launches will have turned out to be false, arousing even more suspicion around the reasons behind such a disastrous release of Verizon's first LTE handset.
