Your chance to apply for Twitter verification is finally arriving

The answer's 'no,' obviously, but at least let yourself pretend you've got a chance

After announcing an overhaul of the verification process late last year, Twitter is nearly ready to start accepting submissions. The company's spent the past few months gathering feedback from the public to make sure its new approach doesn't present any glaring issues, and this week announced that the option to apply for verification is finally starting to appear.

A new update to Google Maps began rolling out late last night to members of the beta channel. This one is arguably light on notable changes, except that there is one feature that may go live in the next few days: Commuting. It was at least briefly live before being disabled remotely. There are also several new topics for a teardown, including more points for longer reviews, new badges, and more.

If you're looking for a particular image of something, Google search is a powerful tool. Sometimes you might be looking for more than just the image itself, though, and that often leads to scrolling through a ton of photos and opening up the ones you hope will lead you to the right content. That can be a laborious task, but Google has just announced a new feature that should lend a hand. It's introducing badges to indicate what content lies behind certain images.

The Aviate launcher has been in alpha/beta for so long, it feels like a Google project. After all, the software runs solidly and has garnered millions of installs. Yet as an app in active development, the new features continue to roll in. Today's update adds badge counts for a handful of apps, including missed phone calls, text messages, Gmail messages, and apps that support notification badges in TouchWiz.

Nova Launcher is one of the most popular home screen replacements out there, and the developers are hard at work ensuring that this doesn't change any time soon. The latest update introduces even more ways to customize every aspect of your launcher's appearance. Anyone who makes the jump to version 2.2 will gain the ability to add backgrounds to their docks, customize the look of their unread badges, and dabble with new scroll effects. You'll need to have Nova Launcher Prime to utilize those last two, though.

The long-awaited Carbon for Twitter app landed on the Play Store a few days ago, but some were of the opinion that it wasn't quite finished yet. This happens in software development. Nothing to be worried about. What should cause worry is if problems persist for months or years at a time (*coughGoogleVoicecough*). On that note, it should be very encouraging that the developers have already rolled out an update that includes a variety of bug fixes.
