We've long been fans of avast! around here. From the antivirus functionality itself to the brilliant anti-theft features with root support, it's one of the absolute best security apps on the Store today – and it keeps getting better. Take the most recent update, for example.

At this point, avast! is already working with a great app, so the most recent additions have been about streamlining. Simplifying. Taking the good and making it great. In the latest release, the company simplified the setup process for the anti-theft service, along with adding a new interface for that part of the app.

Thanks to its amazing anti-theft features – which are powered by what used to be Theft Aware – avast! has long been one of our favorite mobile security apps. That's not to say its malware prevention abilities aren't also a highlight of the application, because they are – in fact, it's an all around good package. And thanks to a new update that hit the Play Store just a bit ago, it's just got better.

The update doesn't bring anything major – it's really about fine-tuning what features are already in place. You'll find a simplified Anti-Theft set up process afterwards, as well as a new AT UI.

Several weeks ago, avast! released a beta version of its mobile security and anti-theft apps (the latter of which used to be Theft Aware) that brought with it a slew of new features, as well as an all-new web portal. Those new features have now left the beta stages and the final release of version 2 is available in the Play Store.

This is a pretty major overhaul for what I believe was already among the best anti-theft/anti-virus solutions for Android. I've been using the beta over the last several weeks and the web portal is comparable to the best that I've ever used, which includes most paid services.
