It seems that the creators of 8pen have been listening intently to user feedback on their radical new input method (see our original post for a video demonstration), because yesterday they released a rather nice update. One of the main issues of contention that Android users had with 8pen was that it was not free, and simply took too long to get used to to trial fairly within the Android Market's 24-hr refund period. It appears that 3qubits have either made enough money from 8pen already, or are planning to pursue a different revenue model, since this update removes the entry fee altogether.
Today is obviously the day for popular applications to add QVGA support. As Rovio did only hours ago, Skype have added support for the increasingly-common 320x240 resolution in their application. That's good news for owners of the HTC Wildfire, Motorola Charm, Huawei IDEOS and LG Optimus T/S, who were left out in the cold until now. Skype for Android has had some nice bug fixes and improvements added, too:
Verizon's announcement of a separate Big Red branded Android Market, called the V Cast App Store, sent shockwaves through the Androidosphere a month ago, with the general consensus being: "we don't want it." Of course, none of us could actually prevent Verizon from fragmenting our Market situation further (they've already done their part with the MOTOBLUR to help fragment the Android OS itself), so all we have to do is go with the flow and see what exactly Verizon's cooked up.
Rather than wait for the official release, the folks over at TalkAndroid have got their hands on the installable APK ripped out of the latest Droid Incredible OTA a few days ago.

You may recall Artem's preview post last week, where he showed off the latest in slick Android music players. Well, no longer are you at the mercy of filesharing site download limits, as PowerAMP build 204 is now available in the rather more dependable Android Marketplace. Cough.
With a change log of such length that it would put a cellular network press release to shame, it's fair to say that this latest version of PowerAMP is packing a few new features. Below we've highlighted a few that may be of particular interest:
- Genre support
- Last.fm scrobbling via Simple Last.fm or Scrobble Droid
- Album art fetcher
- Pause on headset disconnect
- New widgets with album art display
- Hide status bar
- Long hold or double press headset button to skip track
- Lock screen orientation
- Lockscreen widget transparency and positioning
- Many, many bug fixes

PowerAMP
PowerAMP is the sexiest Android music player I've seen to date. It also includes equalizer and preamp support, making it not just gorgeous on the outside, but smart on the inside. It is not yet available in the Market, but you can download the current build from here.
See this xda thread for more info.
I think Google jumped the gun a bit on this one, but hey, if everyone is rolling with it, we'll go with it too. The @AndroidDev twitter account, which publishes official Google Android updates, this morning tweeted that the Market finally reached 100,000 applications:
You may remember we've already made an announcement of 100k back in July and may be wondering: "wha...who...why"? Well, that announcement was made by AndroLib, an unofficial market tracker that uses multiple sources (marketplaces) and includes removed apps into the count. Today's announcement comes from the most official of sources, so I'll get the Champaign ready.
I have loved StarCraft ever since the first version came out back in 1999. I've played it for 10 years, and this year excitedly watched, with all of you, the unveiling of both the beta and final versions (hey, we even got our cool Twitter background thanks to Starcraft II).
While you can't play StarCraft II on your phone, there is a variety of applications on the Android Market aimed at providing stats and other information that should help you be on the winning side of "gg" at the end of the game. Let's take a look at the best of them.
