AppBrain Adds A Filter To Hide Sexually Explicit Apps In The Android Market

Google's recent updates to the Android Market have further refined the process of installing and purchasing apps, but they still haven't developed a suitable desktop alternative to browsing the thousands of Android apps available. AppBrain is a third-party website that fills this gap by allowing users to browse apps on their computers and then choose which ones to install on their phones.

AppBrain is a great tool, but it is limited by the policies of the Android Market, which allow almost any app to be installed. Unlike Apple's App Store, Google does not employ any kind of filtering system, so there are a number of apps which could be harmful for end users (i.e.

Modus Operandi: Like Tasker, But With Less Options And 100% More Free

As far as apps go, few are more useful and versatile than Tasker. Despite the comparatively high price (for an app, anyway) of $6.30, there's probably a reason why its average rating is an impressive 4.7/5 stars. Still, that price is high enough to turn some users away, despite the serious lack of alternatives. Fortunately, that gap was filled a few days ago, when an app called Modus Operandi hit the Market.

Its nature is very similar to Tasker, but as the app is still fairly new (on version 0.3, as of writing), it offers less features. Then again, it's also significantly simpler as a result.

If you use AppBrain for all of your Android app downloads, then you'll want to update the app as soon as possible: the latest update to version five includes all of the following awesome new features:

Ability to share through any sharing app on your phone
Fast Web Installer now integrated
Fast Sync Widget

Unfortunately, the integration of the Fast Web Installer probably won't help thanks to the new Market update breaking it, but with plenty of other new features this update is still pretty substantial.

Google's Latest Market Updates Nerf AppBrain’s Fast Web Installer

The recent update to the Android Market had plenty of people excited about new features to be available in Gingerbread, but it seems like the update may have had some unpleasant side effects. The Appbrain Fast Web Installer feature, which allowed users to push application downloads to their phones straight from Appbrain.com, is now broken due to new security measures. Some naysayers may think that Google is going directly after Appbrain, but in reality, the reasons are much less nefarious. A security flaw that allowed one app to secretly install others was recently exposed by a security company, and the side effect of fixing it broke the Fast Web Installer.
