Today, BlueStacks - a company specializing in Android app integration in Windows - will be making two large, and (hopefully) impressive announcements.

One of these announcements is the Alpha version of their App Player for Windows. If the name didn't already clue you in, BlueStacks App Player allows you to run Android applications on your Windows machine and enter a whole new level of Appoholism. This means that all of your favorite Android apps are now also your favorite PC apps and, by extension, your favorite Android games can now be your favorite PC games. Imagine the convenience of playing Angry Birds on a huge screen that isn't in your bathroom (Android Police cannot be held responsible if you get confused in this scenario and require new pants).

Get ready, folks - the next few days are going to get really interesting. We've already started seeing Ice Cream Sandwich leaks, so why don't we join the fun as well?

This tidbit comes from the Google Plus app found on the Verizon Ice Cream Sandwich device (thanks for dropping some goodies at our porch, Geek Vundotra!). The Google Plus app found on this device is no ordinary app - it's marked as v2.0 and contains numerous UI changes from the v1.0.x that is in the Market right now. But we'll dedicate a separate post to that - right now I wanted to point out something that immediately jumped at me as soon as I installed and opened Google Plus 2.0 on my EVO (yes, it's compatible).

When the official Google Docs app was released a few months ago, we were all pretty excited about it. Since then, I've been using it on my phone and tablet, but have longed for an update that improved the interface on Honeycomb. That day has finally come.

Google just announced via the Google Docs Blog that an update is now available for the app, bringing an entirely new design for Honeycomb tablets. It's intuitive, fluid, and is exactly what I've been waiting on.

It features a three-pane view that allows quick access to your collections, as well as owned a starred items on the leftmost panel; a list of your docs in the middle, and a preview of the selected doc on the right.

adobe

As promised late last month, Adobe has released updated versions of their Flash Player and AIR products to the Android Market. In our earlier article we outlined some of the new features that the updates would bring including, Stage 3D, an architecture that enables hardware-accelerated rendering at 1000x the speed of Flash Player 10, theatre-quality HD video, native 64-bit optimizations, and HD video conferencing. Unfortunately, the latest blog post from Adobe indicates that 2D and 3D graphics rendering through Stage 3D will only be available on Windows, Mac OS X and connected TVs. Apparently, a "production release" of Flash Player 11 with support for Stage 3D will be available for Android, Apple iOS and BlackBerry in an "upcoming release".

Anyone out there still use Hotmail? No? Okay, never mind.

I kid, I kid. I know there are plenty of people who still use Hotmail, and if you fall into that category, you'll be glad to know that an official Android app just landed in the Market.

The Hotmail app brings key features from your Microsoft mail experience to your mobile device, including:

  • Push mail
  • Calendar and contact sync
  • Folder and sub-folder support
  • Send/receive attachments
  • Multiple account support

So, all you Hotmail lovers, head over the Android Market to grab your piece of hot-and-fresh mail-on-the-go-pie. Mmmm, just like mom used to make.

Update: It looks like someone has way too much time on their hands. As reader benjymous pointed out in the comments, the second image is clearly ripped directly from a demo java app from the BBM SDK, giving us solid reason to believe that this is indeed fake. Boo!

As an ardent Android fan I spent the better part of the last few months trying to convince my girlfriend to switch over to the green robot after she lost her beloved BlackBerry and required a replacement phone. However, nothing I said would convince her to give up the corporate mainstay, I even suggested that an iPhone (*gasp*) was a superior device to the BlackBerry.

Popular Android game developer HandyGames has released a sequel to its well received Guns'n'Glory tower defence game called Guns'n'Glory WW2. The original Guns'n'Glory was a Wild West themed game that put you in charge of mobile units which you had to place in strategic position in order to ambush settlers, stagecoaches and "the gold train". The original game took the concept of a tower defence game and put an intriguing spin on it by allowing the enemy units to fight back. So, what makes a great game that much better? Why a World War 2 themed sequel, of course!

Building on the popularity of the original game, HandyGames has wisely not made any significant changes to the sequel Guns'n'Glory WW2, save for an updated setting and improved graphics and gameplay.

Skype for Android, an app that gets almost as much love as it does hate, was updated to version 2.5 a few minutes ago. Because the last update unofficially opened up Skype to all 2.2+ devices, this time around Skype simply listed 13 more devices as whitelisted and approved for video chat capabilities:

  1. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (T-Mobile)
  2. HTC SHOOTER (KDDI)
  3. Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman
  4. Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V
  5. Acer Iconia Tablet (A500)
  6. LG Optimus Black LANDSCAPE ONLY
  7. LG Optimus 3D LANDSCAPE ONLY
  8. LG Optimus 2x LANDSCAPE ONLY
  9. Motorola Photon
  10. Motorola Droid3 LANDSCAPE ONLY
  11. Motorola Bionic LANDSCAPE ONLY

Flickr is finally available in the form of an App for Android, a mere two years after the photo sharing service made its app debut on iOS.

The app includes a built-in camera interface with focus and flash adjustments, as well as filters and effects for editing photos on the fly.

Flickr's Android app also allows for sharing via your Flickr account, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or email. Users can also browse their photo stream, contact photos, or profile, and utilize a feature called "infinite scrolling," in which all your photos are displayed on one page.

If you haven't already, get to the Android Market and grab Flickr's new app.
