Facebook's Director Of Mobile Engineering Discusses Android And Answers Questions On Reddit

Whenever you hear someone talking about Facebook's mobile app, the most common complaint is always how slow it is. Even your news feed can take what feels like an age to load, and that's before you've started navigating through your events and photos of friends.

The reason for this is that the Facebook app uses HTML5, so it doesn't perform as well as other apps which are written natively for a particular platform. HTML5 offers Facebook great flexibility, as the development team can alter and push new code at their will without being restricted by the app approval process of whatever platform they may develop for.

Google Rolls Out Aesthetic And Functional Improvements To Mobile And Tablet Search Quick Answers

In a post to its "Inside Search" blog, Google announced today that several improvements are currently being rolled out to mobile search (for phones and tablets), making some of the engine's quick answers "richer, more beautiful, and more interactive."

In the recent past, users have enjoyed improvements to weather and calculator searches, with handy interactive cards (reminiscent of Google Now's visual style).

Google is now updating a heaping handful of other quick answer features including finance, currency conversion, unit conversion, dictionary definitions, local time lookup, and holiday and sunrise times.

With the aesthetic and functional improvements, Google Search will keep its intuitive quality – for example, a user could search for "how many miles are 42 kilometers" and see an interactive quick answer card with the answer to your query displayed prominently above a host of interactive elements.

Julie Uhrman, Founder Of OUYA, To Host A Reddit AMA Starting At 10am PST

OUYA, for those who may have forgotten, is the much-talked-about, Android-powered gaming console that recently hit Kickstarter, surpassing $1 Million in backing in under 24 hours (currently near $6M at time of writing with 7 days to go) and promising a dazzling sub-$100 game console and awesome gaming experience.

Hot on the heels of news that the console will pack OnLive support and feature games like Final Fantasy III as launch titles, OUYA's founder, Julie Uhrman has announced that she'll be hosting a Reddit AMA session today, August 1st, and will begin answering questions at 10:00am PST (1:00pm EST).

[Google I/O 2011] What Would You Want To Ask The Android Team? Ask Us And We'll Do It For You

With Google I/O 2011 around the corner - in fact it starts in less than 8 hours - I can barely contain the excitement (the 5 beers at today's Samsung and Lookout parties failed to numb that feeling).

Google Music (and movies?), the new Google TV, the next-gen Android dubbed "Ice Cream Sandwich," new games, and possible tablet/phone giveaways are among this year's rumor chart toppers. Will all of them come true? It's likely. Will some? Most definitely (Music and the next-gen Google TV are pretty much sure things now). [In Response To Your Concerns] Google Voice + Sprint Integration Questions and Answers

A few days ago I posted about my experience with the Google Voice integration with Sprint and outlined exactly how I did it. In the comments section, you guys responded with a lot of good thoughts and, in some cases, some serious bugs and questions. I have done a little bit of research, some testing, and some drinking (just kidding. Kind of), and I have some answers and responses for you upstanding, early-adopting citizens.

The Questions

1.How will this affect my MMS?

This was actually the main reason I chose to integrate my Sprint and Google Voice accounts. The short answer is this: If you want to use your Google Voice number in place of your Sprint number, you'll have to have people send MMS messages to your Sprint number.

Notion Ink's Rohan Shravan Answers A Few Of Our Questions About The Adam Tablet, More To Come
