Back in April, we posted a rumor that Google Now was on track to properly handle timer queries (like "set a timer for five minutes") using the clock app's built in timer functionality, rather than simply setting an alarm.

Nearly a month later, we saw mention of the functionality in a teardown of the Search app itself, and today it looks like that functionality has finally been switched on.

Users who say "Set a timer for [time]" will be greeted with a card letting them know the timer is about to commence, with the option to skip straight to starting the timer.

Android surpassed iOS in global smartphone marketshare ages ago, yet iOS still tends to get new apps and games before it. The easy critique is that bone-headed developers are still lovestruck with Apple. A more reasonable critic would acknowledge that developing software that can run on the countless Android devices out there is going to take more time and effort than supporting a single piece of hardware. Developer Game Oven Studios has posted a short vine clip that sums this up in just a glance.

Google continues its monthly ritual of posting platform distribution numbers for Android. After getting a fairly late start, KitKat is keeping up its suddenly explosive pace by adding 3.2% to last month's 5.3%. This is largely due to a continual stream of updates to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3.

The increase in KitKat's presence came at the expense of almost every older version of Android except for Jelly Bean 4.2, which actually rose 0.7%.

While I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer, I do tend to get quickly addicted to casual math games. Give me a set of numbers, some form of logic problem to solve in a few seconds or more, and I can start round after round, often resulting in hours of continuous play. I have tried dozens of math games for Android and kept finding myself drawn toward the most minimalistic ones.

Though there are a plethora of options for backing up your apps and data if you have root access to your device, for those without Superuser privileges, you basically have one option - the Android backup service. Even the backup apps like Helium that don't technically require root are simply front-ends for the backup service. The problems with this part of Android are well-known, extensive and, quite honestly, embarrassing. As if there aren't enough things to complain about with it already, it appears that some folks are having problems restoring encrypted (i.e.
