Android Studio v1.1 Promoted To Stable Channel, v1.2 Will Bring Big New Features From IntelliJ 14

December brought us many gifts, not least of which was the official release of Android Studio v1.0. While things have been fairly quiet for developers sticking to Stable releases, the Android Tools team has been busy with a steady stream of updates for those of us on the Canary builds. After two months in development, v1.1 is finally ready to roll out to the masses. This version is mostly dedicated to bug fixes, but there are a few features added in test builds that will feel new to users that are just now receiving the update.

Changelog: (from the Android Studio 1.1 Beta post)

The Next Android Revision Is Indeed 'Android 5.1 Lollipop', Shipping On Android One Phones, Coming To Nexus Devices

A few hours ago, we spotted no less than five mentions of "Android 5.1" on Google's Indonesian Android One page. Considering that 5.1 is quite a jump from 5.0.2, and something like 5.0.3 seemed more likely as the next bug fixer, we were cautious to suggest it may have been a mistake or a very persistent typo.

But as it turns out, Android 5.1 is real, and it's indeed shipping on Android One phones in Indonesia.

Here, take a look:

Microsoft Releases Outlook Preview For Android

In the dead of night (for those in the US, anyway), Microsoft has released its Outlook Preview app to the Play Store.

Built for Android phones and tablets alike, Microsoft promises that Outlook will help you "get more done from anywhere," handling all your email accounts and attempting to automatically triage your inbox based on what seems most relevant.

For manual triage, the app offers swipe gestures for quickly deleting, archiving, or "scheduling" messages (essentially like snoozing in Google's Inbox).

Outlook also wants to handle your calendar - Microsoft notes the app has your calendar built right in, and it can provide its own reminders and notifications for events.

Google Updates Its Android Compatibility Definition Document For Lollipop

Google's compatibility definition document (CDD) is meant to provide guidelines, requirements, and recommendations to Android device manufacturers who want their devices to be "compatible" with the latest release of Android, allowing them to pass Google's Compatibility Test Suite.

Last time Google updated the document, we noted at least one change of interest, requiring that manufacturers use white status icons with translucent bars. Naturally, when we noticed Google had updated the document again, we had to take a look and see what changes had been made.

There are lots of changes in the new document, but the following are a few of the more interesting ones.
