AOSP Changelogs Posted For February's 6.0.1 And 5.1.1 Security Updates

February's batch of factory images started turning up earlier today and Google followed up with a push to AOSP a few hours later. As usual, we've got some changelogs to look over. The focus this month appears to be entirely on sealing any holes that could be used by bad people to do bad things.

Google posted a security bulletin with a list of fixes found in this release, and there are a few pretty big ones this month. Five items have been tagged Critical, including two that allowed for remote code execution without any user interaction, and the remaining three could have been used for privilege escalation.

The 'Until Next Alarm' Bug In Do Not Disturb Mode Returns, Will Probably Be There Until Google Patches It

Well this is frustrating. The bug that caused the "Until Next Alarm" function of Android's Do Not Disturb mode to disappear, which manifested itself in late December on a number of Android phones running Lollipop 5.1 and later, is back. The timing of the month seems more than coincidental. Since the problem manifested late in December, presumably Google didn't have time to implement a fix in the latest round of scheduled Android updates.

It looks like this will keep occurring at the tail end of the month until Google fixes it - hopefully in the latest round of Nexus updates.

Sometimes The Grass Really Is Greener On The Other Side - Six Major Things I Think iOS Does Better Than Android

Background

I've used Android as my main mobile platform for almost six years now. My first smartphone was a Motorola CLIQ XT that I bought back in May, 2010. It ran Cupcake and though, in retrospect, the phone was a bargain basement toy, it paved my way into the Android world. As a fun experiment, I decided to ditch Google's OS entirely for two weeks and use Apple's products exclusively to see how crazy it would make me. I have owned iOS devices in the past, but I've never forced myself to convert. These days I generally flip between my Nexus 6P and my iPhone 6S Plus depending on my mood that day.

[Deal Alert] Nexus 6 32GB/64GB Are Back In Stock On Amazon For $250/$300

The Nexus 6 is available on Amazon for $249.99/$299.99 for the 32GB and 64GB models respectively. This isn't a new deal, or a better price than what we posted a couple of weeks ago at the end of December, but the phone has been out of stock for the past several days.

I'm sure most of you have the Nexus 6's specs memorized by now, so I won't go into detail telling you about the device. Summary– it's a great big phone for a pretty small price that will give you access to lighting quick Android updates.

Both dark blue and white models are in stock, and as this is the US model, it is compatible with every major carrier in the US, just pop in the SIM card of your choosing.

Download: 7 Android TV UI Frames To Quickly Sketch Interfaces For The Living Room

Yesterday, I was starting work on some sketches for Android TV. When it was time to move into Sketch (my current mockup tool of choice, mostly because of its Zeplin integration), I realized I hadn't really seen any good ready-made sheets, frames, or stickers for Android TV UI. So I decided to just go ahead and build a few screens, and then maybe - if they came out decent - upload them for other designers who might want to do a quick TV mockup or two.

The Sketch file you'll find below has 7 artboards, covering the Android TV home page, a basic leanback UI, a video player, a list, settings, and keyboard/text input.
