December 2017 platform distribution numbers: Oreo's piece of the pie nearly doubles as Nougat's share continues to grow

Well, it's that time of the month again. Like last month, Google's a bit later than it usually is with these numbers, and it isn't because we have a new version of Android for the chart. Although 8.1 has been released, this month's platform distribution numbers don't include it. Nougat continues to make gains, cumulatively adding an extra 2.7% to its slice of the pie, and Oreo has almost doubled to 0.5%.

Finals week is about to kick off for me, so good luck to you if you're in the same boat, but that won't interfere with the first round of app sales for the week. Peruse and browse the lists below at your leisure. No personal recommendations to be found today, sadly.

Honor 7X review: A contender for budget king

Honor is back here at the end of 2017 with another budget phone that, for all intents and purposes, is a better bang for your buck than its predecessor, the 6X. The specs have seen a slight boost, but the biggest change is the addition of Huawei's FullView display. Yes, that's right: a budget phone with an 18:9 screen, something thus far uncommon.

'Janus' vulnerability allows attackers to modify APKs without changing signature, APKMirror already protected

Since the first release, Android has required developers to sign their applications. When you update an app, Android will compare the update's signature to the existing version. If they match, the app update will install. This way, developers don't have to worry about modified APKs causing problems, and users are kept secure.

Start the week with 34 temporarily free and 13 on-sale apps

December is here and 2017 starts to wind down. I'm back with some more app sales for you all. Due to the volume of homework and the end-of-semester rush, I was not able to get to a post on Friday — mea culpa. Regardless, it seems like we didn't miss much, which sets us up nicely for today.
