Samsung Galaxy S "Tab" Tablet Spotted, Confirmed For Q3 2010

Samsung has confirmed that their Android tablet device, the Galaxy Tab, will be shipping in Q3 of this year. The Galaxy Tab has been rumored for some time now, and is very similar in design and function to the Galaxy S line of phones – which our own unboxings show are some pretty gorgeous pieces of kit.

As you can see, the tab truly does look like an oversized Galaxy S.

Interpad Android Tablet Details Emerge: Android Tablets Getting Serious

German company Interpad has released details on their website about their up-and-coming Android tablet, slated (get it?) to be released later this year… in Germany. The devices are more costly than the other Android tablets we’ve seen by this point, but you’re getting one hell of a nice device for your money:

  • Dual-Core nVidia Tegra @ 1 GHz
  • 10.1” 1024x600 px screen
  • 512 MB to 1 GB RAM (depending on model)
  • 512 MB to 1 GB ROM, mSD support from 2 to 32 GB (depending on model)
  • Mini USB, mini HDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • 802.11 b/g
  • Bluetooth (depending on model)
  • Android 2.1 (Eclair) – FroYo reportedly to come later
  • Bewegungssensor (Google translate failed on that one – I’d guess it’s an accelerometer)

If this doesn’t turn out to be vaporware and it makes it to the US, we will be some seriously happy campers.

Lenovo Plans Android Tablet To Compete With iPad In China

Lenovo has a strong name in China, and hasn’t faced much competition from Apple there. In fact, they’ve even mocked Apple about “wasting” their presence in the enormous market. However, as the iPad is set for release in Hong Kong this Friday – and is expected to be fully available in China soon – Lenovo plans on stepping up their game and challenging Apple with an Android tablet.

Other than the fact the tablet (the “LePad”) will run Android, no real specs have been revealed.

Dell Streak Tablet-Phone Headed To AT&T Stores Next Week?

Engadget has done a little bit of conjecturing and made a pretty convincing argument that the half tablet, half phone Dell Streak  (specs available here) will be hitting US shores in AT&T stores next week. The evidence? An AT&T store has locked down the smartphone section of its sales floor for the erection of a new product display and implemented security measures that make the TSA seem lax.

Employees are required to sign non-disclosure agreements, and some are “on the chopping block” for getting a little too curious about the displays.

HP Cans Android Slate Tablet For webOS Slate Tablet, Promptly Reminds Us That They’re HP

All Things Digital is reporting that HP’s planned Android Slate tablet has been delayed, possibly indefinitely. Given HP’s recent acquisition of Palm, it seems likely that HP is choosing to focus on development of their webOS tablet to compete with Apple’s iPad as quickly as possible. From a business standpoint, HP is probably making the right move. For Android and open source fans, though, this is indeed a sad day.

Despite HP’s less-than-perfect reputation for hardware quality, the Slate platform is definitely the slickest-looking tablet this side of the iPad, and Android would have benefited from a wide-release, US market tablet.

Pandigital Novel Hacked, Now Less Crappy

The Pandigital Novel (which was pulled from store shelves last month) has been hacked. Rather than rooting the device, blogger Nate The Great from The Digital Reader took a few simple steps to modify the device as he saw fit, and in the process changed his home screen, enabled app installation, and changed the function of the volume buttons. As a result, he says the Novel runs smoother and faster, and he’s “a lot happier” with the device now.
