New Survey Says Consumers Want Tablets, Android Has High Brand Loyalty But Low Brand Recognition, And Bigger Is Better

Sybase (owned by SAP) commissioned a survey on tablets, and the results are rather surprising. Before I dig in, however, I feel it's only fair to point out what I perceive as a flaw in the survey: they provide minimal information on the survey questions and how it was conducted. As a result, it's hard to tell whether the survey was free of bias; based on how the results are presented with bias, I'm guessing not.

WeTab Will Run MeeGo OS, Android Apps

The planets have aligned: MeeGo, the latest operating system that will power phones and tablets and which you've probably never heard of, has just collided with Android, a mobile operating system made by... oh, you all know what Android is. Right?

alt

Anyhow, the WeTab, which does indeed run the former of those two operating systems, will also be able to run applications designed for the latter, ie Android! It isn't clear whether this means that it will offer access to the Android Market or merely be able to run Android apps downloaded off the Internet, though the tablet will ship with an app store called the "Meta Store".

Archos 32 PMP - I Mean Internet Tablet - Now Available For $150

Sure, it's no Galaxy Tab, but the Archos 32, which just began shipping today, does offer some bang for your buck.

With specs like:

  • a 3.2 inch 400x240 resistive touchscreen
  • an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor
  • 802.11 b/g/n WiFi
  • BlueTooth 2.1 + EDR
  • a G-sensor

it's not exactly at the top of the Android tablet heap (or even the Archos tablet heap), but for $149.99, what more could you ask?

Samsung Galaxy Tab To Launch On O2 For €99 With Contract, €799 Without?

It's clear from what other reviewers think as well as the specifications Samsung's released so far that the Galaxy Tab will be the Android tablet to get at the time of its launch (which, mind you, has still not been announced). Unfortunately, there are still a few things that could go wrong, not the least of which is pricing. Today, it would appear that mystery has been debunked by a recent tweet from German carrier O2 as well as the latest round of rumors.

Rumor Has It Samsung Galaxy Tab Will Go To Sprint

Seems like Sprint is really turning itself around lately, doesn't it? They've managed to stop bleeding customers in the past few months, and it's a fairly safe assumption that their ever-expanding lineup of awesome devices has something to do with it. Looks like they're looking to continue the trend, too: BGR's heard word that the Galaxy Tab will be headed to Sprint sometime in November.

They don't provide any details other than that, so hopefully this ends up being reliable.

Engadget Previews Viewsonic 10" Tablet - Dual-Boots Win7 & Android 1.6

Last week, we found out that Viewsonic would be rebranding and selling a 7" and 10" tablet; the 7" tablet would be Android while the 10" would dual-boot Android and Win7. Now Engadget has a hands-on preview of the 10" with additional details, and suffice it to say there are some ups and downs.

Bad news first, though: the tablet runs Android 1.6. The reason for this lies in the CPU used, but that doesn't make shipping a tablet with an OS that's over a year old suck any less.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Prototype Spotted Again, With Some Hands-On Details

A prototype of Samsung's Galaxy tablet (creatively named the "Galaxy Tab") has been spotted again, this time in the hands of a Chinese citizen. Unfortunately, Google Translate is pretty awful on this one:

Broke the identity of a mystery, e-mail name is (づ¯ 3 ¯)づ, good sense ... pregnant, and he also presents us with a gift: The Galaxy Tab landing our home, so ifanr a Samsung flat in the first Chinese Web site, thanks his readers!

Bucket Full O' Droids - Droid Pro, Droid 2 World Edition, And Tablet Found In Verizon's System

The custom used to be to release two, maybe three, at most four, new flagship smartphones every summer. Now, it appears that the custom is to release as many as possible, as soon as possible. And this latest batch of leaks indicates that Verizon and Motorola have no plans to change that anytime soon.

Droid 2 World Edition

First up for inspection, we have a screenshot of an internal document suggesting that a device with the model number A956 is in the works and will come in both black and white.

Samsung Galaxy S "Tab" Tablet Spotted, Confirmed For Q3 2010

Samsung has confirmed that their Android tablet device, the Galaxy Tab, will be shipping in Q3 of this year. The Galaxy Tab has been rumored for some time now, and is very similar in design and function to the Galaxy S line of phones – which our own unboxings show are some pretty gorgeous pieces of kit.

As you can see, the tab truly does look like an oversized Galaxy S.

Interpad Android Tablet Details Emerge: Android Tablets Getting Serious

German company Interpad has released details on their website about their up-and-coming Android tablet, slated (get it?) to be released later this year… in Germany. The devices are more costly than the other Android tablets we’ve seen by this point, but you’re getting one hell of a nice device for your money:

  • Dual-Core nVidia Tegra @ 1 GHz
  • 10.1” 1024x600 px screen
  • 512 MB to 1 GB RAM (depending on model)
  • 512 MB to 1 GB ROM, mSD support from 2 to 32 GB (depending on model)
  • Mini USB, mini HDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • 802.11 b/g
  • Bluetooth (depending on model)
  • Android 2.1 (Eclair) – FroYo reportedly to come later
  • Bewegungssensor (Google translate failed on that one – I’d guess it’s an accelerometer)

If this doesn’t turn out to be vaporware and it makes it to the US, we will be some seriously happy campers.
