Jelly Bean Update For The Samsung Galaxy S III Goes Live On Vodafone And O2 After Brief Delays

European O2 and Vodafone Galaxy S III owners, it's finally your turn to check out Jelly Bean first hand. Following last week's updates on Hutchison Whampoa networks (Three/3/H3G), now O2 and Vodafone joined the party and started pushing out Android 4.1.1 to Galaxy S IIIs in at least the following locations:

  • O2: United Kingdom, Ireland
  • Vodafone: United Kingdom, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany

The Vodafone launch started today right on schedule, as per this post from a few days ago.

The O2 rollout was scheduled to begin on the 19th of October, but was delayed until today, the 22nd, as confirmed by several updates to this blog post on O2's forums:

Samsung Continues Pushing Out Jelly Bean To Galaxy S IIIs In Europe - Italy, United Kingdom, Switzerland, And Ireland Join The List

The Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III is steadily spreading to more countries in Europe, in addition to Poland, Sweden, France, Spain, Romania, and Austria. Today, it started rolling out in Italy (H3G), United Kingdom (H3G), Switzerland (Swisscom), and Ireland (Three), as well as on another Austrian carrier called 3 Austria. As far as I can tell, H3G, Three, and 3 are all owned by the same giant company - Hutchison Whampoa (some names are even interchangeable), so four out of five pushes today seem to be a coordinated effort.

Curiously, the majority of the updates (those pushed by Hutchinson-owned carriers) are no longer I9300XXDLIH dated September 28, but rather I9300XXDLJ1 which is a fresher build dated October 8.

Samsung Announces Jelly Bean For The U.S. Galaxy S III, Available 'In The Coming Months'

Since the JB update started rolling out to the GSIII in Europe last night, Samsung decided this would be the perfect time to let U.S. owners know that the update will be available "in the coming months." Can you guess the reason why it's going to take so much longer? Allow me to enlighten you:

The specific timing and update method will be announced by each carrier partner, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular.

Yep, it's the carriers. Still, while the timing may not be ideal, at least the update is guaranteed.

Samsung goes on to brag about the "host of new and enhanced TouchWiz features," including camera enhancements, blocking mode (which can disable calls, notifications, and alarms), easy mode (which simplifies the interface), and of course, overall usability improvements.

Official Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Updates Continue Rolling Out Across Europe - Now In France, Spain, Romania, And Austria

The floodgates seem be open, folks - the Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III are now rolling out all over Europe. Last month, Samsung shared Android 4.1.1 with Polish users, took a break to fix some bugs, and restarted the process two days ago in Sweden. As of today, the list of countries has expanded quite a bit - France, Spain, Romania, and Austria. All signs point to a much wider rollout, and I wouldn't be surprised if even more territories and carriers show up within the next 48 hours.

Official Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Update Pops Up Again, This Time In Sweden

The European Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update first turned up in Poland about three weeks ago. At the time, we were hoping it was a good indication that the rest of Europe would follow soon after, but that's about the last we've heard of it until today. In the meantime, Samsung did fire up the update in Korea and reiterated it would soon show up in the States.

Multiple Online Retail Listings Out 32GB Nexus 7 – Looks Like It's Happening

There have been rumors over the last few weeks that Google and Asus are planning to release a new version of the Nexus 7 with 32GB of storage. We previously saw a screenshot from a Carphone Warehouse inventory computer that included this device. Now we've found not one, not two, but three more online listings for the 32GB Nexus 7. This is looking like a lock, folks.

All three listings have the same part number and two of them have a matching UPC included. None of them have an image, but we all know what a Nexus 7 looks like -- just imagine it with more storage inside.

Full Official Jelly Bean ROMs For The Prime And Infinity Ready To Download From ASUS' Website

Late last week, ASUS began pushing Jelly Bean to the Transformer Prime, and it followed up by doing the same for the Infinity this week. That's great for users running stock systems with locked bootloaders, but if you don't fall into that camp, then you get no OTA love from ASUS. Now, though, they have made available the full stock ROMs for both tablets.

The ROMs, which are Android 4.1.1, can be flashed using any custom recovery - simply unzip the download and drop the contents onto your device's storage partition. From there, flash it just like any other ROM.

Jelly Bean Now Rolling Out To The ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700T) In The US

Last week, ASUS promised Jelly Bean to TF201 and TF700 owners, and while the former got its update right on time, there was an issue that prevented the update from being pushed to the latter. As a result, ASUS said the update would be available "early next week." Here we are, about as early as it can possibly get in the new week, and the OTA has already begun rolling out.

As expected, it brings Android 4.1.1 and all the enhancements that come along with it, including Project Butter and Google Now.

You can pull the update by heading into Settings > About tablet > System Firmware Update > Check now.

ASUS Releases Changelog For Prime And Infinity Jelly Bean Update, Rolling Out In The US On September 27th And 28th Respectively

I love how fast ASUS moves. When they say an update is coming, you can rest assured that it's coming soon. Just this morning they teased us a bit on Facebook, and ASUS rep Gary Key took to XDA to let users know that the Jelly Bean updates for the Prime and Infinity would be rolling out "within 72 hours."

Now, this evening, they've published a rollout schedule and full changelog for both devices:

  • Upgrade OS from Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
  • Default enable System Bar Lock
  • Add Multiple Photo Selection feature
  • Support Connect Dock (Accessory)
  • Remove Adobe Flash support
  • Remove Wi-Fi Direct function support
  • Remove Press Reader

It's also noted that Press Reader, should you actually use it, will still be available in the Play Store.

ASUS Pushing Jelly Bean To The Transformer Prime (TF201) In Sweden, No Word On Other Countries

The once flagship device of ASUS' Transformer family, the Prime, is now getting its official taste of Jelly Bean in Sweden. This marks the first Android 4.1 OTA to the Prime, coming more than a month after its more affordable cousin, the Transformer Pad 300, saw the update.

ASUS notes on its Swedish Facebook page that this update will kill flash support in the Play Store, but it also lovingly provides a link to Adobe's site, where the player can still be downloaded. Good Guy ASUS!

Otherwise, the OTA will remove Wi-Fi Direct support for whatever reason, so if this is something you use often, you may want to stay on ICS for now.
