Amazon-App-Store

Amazon is making it a little easier for devs to put out bug-free apps on its Android Appstore with the new Live App Testing feature. Taking advantage of this capability lets you roll an update out to a limited group of testers who hunt for bugs and send usage data back. It's a little more locked down than Google's Play Store beta program, but that might be preferable sometimes.

Amazon is gunning to be the only way you make purchases or transactions. The company already has a great hold on the online side of payments, but it is now expanding into the real world with Amazon Local Register—the answer to Square and Paypal Here with a few competitive advantages.

Instead of dealing with banks and high setup fees, vendors and business owners can easily sign up to the new service on the Amazon Local Register site, then download the app (Google Play Store, Apple App Store, Amazon Appstore), buy the secure card reader for $10, and be done.

If you're heavily invested in Amazon's book ecosystem, then you're probably an avid Kindle user. If you also happen to use Google Books, then you've probably noticed that Amazon's offering is lacking many of the features that make Books so good, like immersive mode. Well, Amazon stepped up its game today with a Kindle app update that brings that and much more:

4.6.0

  • Read books in immersive full-screen mode (Android OS 4.4+)
  • Tap the bottom right corner of a page to lock orientation
  • Control playback from the lock screen while audio is playing in the book
  • Choose system brightness in reader settings
  • Navigate table of contents by sub chapter
  • Pair with Bluetooth devices (Permission)

Amazon, update your test device already.

The Poweradd family-sized USB wall charger power adapter is capable of pumping juice into five devices at once. It's a compact way to get as much use out of a single power outlet as you can, and today it's available on Amazon for just $12.99 after a coupon code that shaves an additional $3 off its current $15.99 sale price. To get the discount, enter 5N4O4IUS at checkout.

Of the power adapter's five USB ports, two provide an output of 2.1A, one offers 1.3A, and the remaining two pump 1A each.

Amazon is currently offering the Wi-Fi version of its 32GB Kindle Fire 8.9 for $299.99, a discount of $130. For an extra 15 bucks, you can get the variant without ads (excuse me, special offers) instead. The discount applies to both, and it's valid for only today.

Other variations of the tablet are also going at discounted rates, though they don't compare to the $130 savings we see on the aforementioned model.

By now, you've probably heard a lot about Amazon's Fire Phone. I figure that most people aren't really curious about what the overall phone is like – if you've used a Kindle Fire/HD/HDX then you already know. It's about Amazon services and a weird launcher layout thing. Most people are curious about the four front-facing cameras and Dynamic Perspective. I'm with you on that – that's exactly what I was curious about before getting this phone for review.

Most of us approach Amazon as consumers. Whether it's a physical product or some digital goodie, we want to buy everything we can get our hands on. The site loves this about us, so it's made itself so compelling to use that the thought of shopping elsewhere is often proceeded by "Meh, I'll check Amazon first." The thing is, Amazon's selection wouldn't be nearly as comprehensive without the many merchants who also use the site to sell their wares.

Carcassonne

Update: As it turns out, there's many more where that came from. Carcassonne is part of Amazon's current "Over $100 in Essential Apps FREE Thursday and Friday Only" deal. It's joined by a slew of free apps and games.

There's always a free app of the day in the Amazon Appstore, but sometimes consumers are treated to multiple giveaways on the site at the same time. Today's free app, Sorcery, is joined by Carcassonne, which just happens to be going for the glorious price of $0.00 at the same time.

If there's one thing Amazon knows how to do, it's sell stuff to as many people as it can. Today the company has announced that 41 new countries and territories now have access to its online Android marketplace. These areas are spread throughout Africa, the Middle East, Oceania, and Southeast Asia.

There's a bitter divide in the world of Android hardware: those who love expandable storage and those who don't. (There are a few who are indifferent and level-headed, but they never seem to speak up in the comments section.) If you fall into the former category, head over to Amazon's Gold Box one-day deal page. They're selling Transcend brand MicroSD cards for dirt cheap.

You can pick up a 32GB MicroSD card for $13.99, more than $20 off of Amazon's regular price.
