The People Who Made The 'Monotune' Android Commercial Recorded An Entire Album, And It's Free On Google Play Music

Google's "Monotune" Android commercial is pretty cool. The musical analogy is interesting (and it ties in well with Google's "be together, not the same" marketing campaign), but there's an impressive technical aspect to it as well. The producers modified a grand piano so that all 88 keys were turned to middle C, so that pianist Ji-Yong Kim could really play the music using a single note. As cool as that commercial is, they might have taken things a bit too far with the latest promotion: an entire album of music played with that one-note piano.

[Deal Alert] The Footloose 2011 Soundtrack Is Free On Google Play, Plus Juno, Dazed & Confused, The Crow, And The Fault In Our Stars For 99¢ Each

I'm still wondering who was really asking for a remake of the original Footloose, but if you enjoyed the 2011 version, the soundtrack probably had a lot to do with it. The movie's licensed music, most of which isn't available in single tracks, is now free on the Google Play Store. As with most of these free albums, your mileage may vary - it's a free download in the United States, but may not be available elsewhere. The 2014 album Kuntry Livin' from rap/country fusion group Big Smo (cringe) is also free today.

[Deal Alert] More Free Music Up For Grabs On Google Play - This Time 'Play: Latin Vibes' And '1000 Forms Of Fear' By Sia

Good news for those of you who love free stuff! Google is giving away some more albums on Google Play Music today. The two that are available are of completely different genres but share the same sweet price of nothing.

The first album is Play: Latin Vibes and features ten Latin songs by ten different artists including Ricky Martin. I listened to the first few songs, and I think it's a sweet mix that would be great to listen to while lounging poolside at a resort. Or, while basking in the flickering florescent lights of your cubicle while you eat a burrito from Chipotle.

It's time to take a step back in time and enjoy some of the tunes gifted to future generations from the 20th century. Google's offering three jazz albums for free in the US. One, entitled Playlist: The Very Best Of Billie Holiday, contains fifteen tracks (though it somehow lacks Strange Fruit edit: see this enlightening comment for an explanation). Playlist: The Very Best Of Miles Davis provides ten tracks from, you guessed it, Miles Davis.

Bjork's 'Biophilia' Mixed Album-App Experience Brings Quirky Educational Content To The Play Store, Feels Like An Acid Trip

Bjork's Biophilia part-album, part-app is an educational experience that teaches kids both about music and the natural sciences. That it helps prevent risky behavior by giving youth a chance to experience an acid trip without doing drugs is an added perk. At some point there appears to be a dis-embodied pelvis making love with the moon, suggesting that some type of abstract sexual education may have slipped in as well. Now all of this is available in the Play Store, two years after Biophilia's iOS debut.

Bjork2 Bjork3

These first impressions may be misleading, as the experience has already spread throughout cities across the world via the Biophilia Educational Program.
