When Horn arrived on that other mobile platform a couple weeks ago, it was met with plenty of praise. Now Horn is available on Android, and it still stands out among all categories of games. Horn is built from the ground up with an awareness that it will be played on a touchscreen device, and it shows. From the impressive graphics to the unique story, Horn has a lot to show off. Let's dig in and see if it's a must-have.

A platform can never have too many zombies, and thanks to a new co-op survival game called Call of Mini, Android now has a few more.

The popular iOS game came to the Play Store yesterday, and allows players to work with each other and take down hoards of zombies with whatever weapons they can find. Machine gun, chainsaw, rocket launcher, anything goes.

As well as a co-op mode, the game also allows you to play against other people in VS mode, from which you can gain various rewards. As you play each mode on the game more, you can pick up some achievements that are on offer, adding to the re-play value of the game.

Jetpack Joyride, a game that's already seen huge success on iOS, finally came to Android today. The game – which ranks with Temple Run in terms of interest and demand from Android users – comes to us from Halfbrick Studios, the minds behind the insanely popular Fruit Ninja, and delivers the same action-packed, stylistically awesome experience as its iOS counterpart.

The game invites players to "take to the skies on a one-way trip to adventure," following the story of Barry Steakfries, who breaks into a secret lab to free experimental jetpacks from evil scientists, causing plenty of mayhem in the process.

One of the more anticipated action games this year is Darksiders II, the follow up to the 2010 sleeper hit. While THQ's mythological opus is still a little power-hungry for even the latest Android tablets, streaming specialist OnLive has decided to make it available on their remote gaming platform almost immediately after the PC release. Those who have an Onlive account can experience the game as if they had a high-end gaming rig, and it's been adapted for control with any Android device running Gingerbread or later.

For the uninitiated, Darksiders takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been exterminated by the war between Heaven and Hell.

Superhero tie-in games are inevitable. But over the last decade or so, gamers have found that they're not inevitably bad. Spider-man and Batman have both had something of a renaissance on consoles, helping us to forget some truly awful licensed titles. Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City have demonstrated that exceptional gaming experiences can spring from licensed titles, at least when enough talent, creativity and resources are directed at them. It was these two games, even more than its movie tie-in, that inspired Gameloft in the creation of The Dark Knight Rises for Android.

If you're going to copy something, a game that's been nearly universally applauded is a good place to start.

"Android has always put you in control when it comes to staying notified and connected. Now you can take action directly from the notifications shade," says Android's updated "What's New" page. Indeed, today's Jelly Bean announcement saw a number of improvements to the already handy notification system we've come to know and love in previous iterations of Android. Not only can the new notifications system display larger, richer notifications, developers can create actionable notification with interactive controls for telephony, music, and more.

With a new and improved Notification Builder, apps can create notifications with a height of up to 256dp.

Following up on the success of the self-billed "blockbuster casual platform action RPG" Illusia, GAMEVIL recently released Illusia 2 to the Play Store, promising a "thrilling storyline full of twists and turns," and "endless customizable options."

For those unfamiliar with the original game, Illusia is a side-scrolling RPG with heavy fantasy influence and a focus on quests, equipment upgrades, and overall immersive gameplay. Illusia 2, in keeping with the original, offers a rich, colorful art style, core RPG elements, and a compelling storyline. Illusia 2 follows Angela, Chris, and Ares as they work to restore peace to the Dream World, which is suffering from nightmares triggered by an unknown evil force.

Described as part real time strategy, part role playing game, GAMEVIL's Plants War is the most adorable game to offer "intense real-time tactical strategy" I've seen in months.

The game takes place on a post-human Earth, where animals who were left behind on the (mostly) barren planet have begun taking over the one remaining holdout of lush greenery and water – Dryad Forest. Enraged by the animals' exploitation of the forest, an army of plants (using a magical power source provided by Lake Naiad) band together to stop the animals. Of course, a raging battle ensues.

Players, when starting a new round, can select their "hero," with additional/enhanced heroes available for purchase using two types of in-game currency: gold and leaf.

Google unleashed a small round of updates today, bringing new features to both the Play Books and Street View apps. Play Books has been updated with a brand new UI for devices running Android 2.2/2.3, including the nifty 3D page-turning animation users of Books' tablet interface have come to know and love.

Users can also add home screen shortcuts for individual books, allowing you to jump straight into your favorite book without actually opening the app. The update also enables offline search, and ensures that your device's display will stay on during TTS.

Google Street View, on the other hand, got a slightly less major update (but an important one nonetheless) – the app now includes Ice Cream Sandwich's signature action bar and action-overflow button for those running Android 4.0+, bringing its interface into line with ICS' current design standards.

ErnCon, an awesome game with a strange name, reached version 1.0 today, officially "going gold." The game could be described as a mix between the classic 'Asteroids' and any entry from the chaotic "bullet hell" genre, with some interesting multiplayer capabilities thrown in.

ErnCon's description urges users to "join your allies in the epic battle to retake the galaxy," which could be paraphrased as "shoot everything and stay alive." When first starting the game, a nameless, busty guide will help you learn how to play in a quick tutorial mission. After the tutorial, players can choose to either shoot through Survival Mode or Missions.
