Not much was known for a fact about the next crown jewel in the Droid line of Android phones that played a such a crucial part in the growth of the OS in the past 2 years. We had a suspicion that it would have a 4" screen, lose "the lip," and gain a dual-core CPU and a front-facing camera, all while bearing the name Droid 3, but no concrete proof of any of those.

A series of Droid 3 training videos surfaced today, well ahead of the device's release, which is rumored to be sometime this summer. The videos clearly show and confirm a larger form factor with curvier lines (4" sounds about right now), an 8MP HD camera that is capable of 1080P video recording, an updated version of MOTOBLUR (just look at that lock screen), a 5-row keyboard with a dedicated number row, and an HDMI output.

galaxy-tab-101v-04252011

Remember the wafer-thin new Galaxy Tab 10.1 we saw at CTIA? Yeah, well, you might have to wait a while longer before you can get your paws on one of those - but if you live in Portugal and you're willing to sacrifice some of that slimness, you'll be able to obtain an ever-so-slightly thicker model called the Galaxy Tab 10.1v starting tomorrow. The tablet will be sold through Vodafone for the price of €589.90 and will be:

  • 10.9mm thick
  • Running on stock Honeycomb
  • Powered by a dual-core 1 GHz Tegra 2 CPU
  • Including an HPSA+ radio
  • Featuring an 8MP rear camera

Vodafone will also be selling the 10.1v in the Netherlands, though they have not yet announced its price there; the only detail we have so far is that it'll launch in "week 17," which should mean sometime before May 1st.

AndroidPolice.com And EVO 4G Go To Nice And Monaco's Monte Carlo For A Photo/Video Shoot
Last Updated: July 24th, 2011

Earlier this week I've covered EVO 4G's photo (8MP) and HD video taking (720p) capabilities with beautiful shots and videos of Paris.

I could leave the subject alone, but you see, after Paris, I went to the south of France - Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo, and other beautiful towns. I then fell in love with Monte Carlo and shot some videos and more photos of it with the EVO, which I can't not share with you, right on EVO's launch day.

Since I've already reviewed and discussed the camera and camcorder features and flaws in the previous 2 posts linked above, I'm not going to include them here - just enjoy the EVO and the beautiful scenery.

Over the last week, during my visit to Paris, I've been using both my regular camera and the EVO 4G I got at Google I/O for taking shots and videos of the beautiful French capital.

So what kind of pictures can you expect from the EVO, which has an 8MP camera and a dual LED flash? Just click on the images below to find out.

Camera Details And Performance

The performance of the camera during the day far exceeded my expectations - the pictures come out very sharp and crisp, for a mobile phone camera - it almost seems like there is an image stabilization packed somewhere in there.

Here is the long awaited announcement from Sprint/HTC - the Supersonic name is no more and the phone is now called EVO 4G.

It will be released this summer, so roll your tongues back up, pick up your jaws and prepare for the painful wait. Get ready to be taunted by the HTC HD2 (which is very similar but running WinMo) owners, and coming out any day now.

Here are the specs of this monster. It is, indeed, the most impressive phone to day:

  • 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8650 CPU
  • a 4.3" TFT screen, 480x800 resolution
  • TWO cameras - 8MP on the back and 1.3MP on the front
  • DUAL flashes on the back - I got to see what that looks like on the HD2 and it's really blinding
  • 720P video playback and recording using the rear camera and HDTV connectivity via HDMI through an adaptor
  • 1GB internal storage
  • 8GB MicroSD card included, expandable to 32GB
  • 512MB RAM
  • WiMax/4G with support for 8 concurrent users
  • WiFi b/g
  • FM radio
  • Proximity, light, gyro sensors, digital compass, GPS
  • Bluetooth 2.1 A2DP + EDR
  • 1500mAh battery
  • a kickstand - interesting, that's a new and lightweight way of making your phone stay upright - great for watching videos on the huge screen
  • Android 2.1 with HTC Sense
  • Dimensions: 4.8" x 2.6" x 0.5" (122mm x 66mm x 13 mm)
  • Weight: 6 ounces
  • MicroUSB connector
