HTC Sensation

Update: It has been confirmed by T-Mobile that the Sensation 4G will cost $199.99 on a two-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate. Still no word on off-contract pricing, however.

It doesn't come as much of a surprise, but T-Mobile has finally announced the release date of the long-awaited Sensation 4G - by June 15 at T-Mobile retail stores, and as early as June 12 at select Wal-Mart locations. Unfortunately, T-Mobile didn't provide anything in the way of pricing, but we'll certainly be hearing about that in the coming days. For a quick reminder of specs on this beast of a phone:

  • 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon processor
  • 4.3" qHD (960 x 540) display
  • Android 2.3 with Sense 3.0
  • 768 MB RAM
  • 8 megapixel camera with LED flash
  • 1080p video capture
  • HSPA+ "4G"
  • 1520 mAH battery

Remember, the full press release puts the release date as "by June 15," so there's a good chance that you'll be seeing the Sensation 4G in stores before that date.

Update Memorial Day: Well, Amazon prices didn't drop today. Our Amazon rep hasn't gotten back to us to confirm, but @AmazonWireless has tweeted that the "all 4G phones free" sale wasn't real, so I'm writing off the Amazon part of this sale as a hoax. :(

Deals - we got 'em. While Amazon is having their own Memorial Day Android handset sale over at Amazon Wireless, LetsTalk.com wasn't about to be outdone. Here's the most relevant (not all-inclusive) deals, including the 20% off coupon code for Verizon phones (the code is: 7c7f3319) (prices that beat Amazon's are italicized, and we've provided Amazon's prices for comparison).

If you're lookin' to score the newly-released LG Revolution, but the $250 price tag is a bit steep for you, then hop on over to Wirefly, where you can get VZW's newest 4G LTE device for $200. I realize that may not be the deal of the century, but c'mon - a deal is a deal, right?

Not sure if this is the device for you? Check the specs:

  • 4.3 inch 800*480 display
  • 1GHz Snapdragon processor
  • 16GB Built-in Storage
  • 5MP rear camera with 720p video capture
  • 1.3MP front camera
  • Android 2.2
  • 4G LTE

So there you have it - if you want a 4G LTE phone, but the Droid Charge or HTC Thunderbolt aren't your cup of tea, then this is the way to go.

revolution

Official word just came our way from Verizon that the LG Revolution will be available at Verizon beginning tomorrow. Let's be honest: the Revolution is not an exciting device, and as with the Charge, is probably overpriced for what it is. But then again, it's not as though the Revolution is sub-par, either:

  • 1GHz Snapdragon processor
  • Verizon LTE
  • Android 2.2 (ಠ_ಠ)
  • 4.3" 480x800 display
  • Bing (ಠ_ಠ)
  • 5.0MP camera with flash (rear), 1.3MP (front)
  • 720p video recording
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • 16GB microSD card preinstalled

Aside from the LTE, some fairly average specs by today's standards. Still, the similarly-equipped Droid Incredible 2 managed to impress me, and David had a chance to play with the Revolution at CTIA and came away with a positive impression.

911sniper has done it again - this time with a full RUU (full release firmware) from the upcoming EVO View 4G, Sprint's 4G-ified version of the now-available HTC Flyer (the latter is on sale now at Best Buy).

The hefty file weighs in at a staggering 522MB - and given the massive load that's going to be placed on 911sniper's mirror, we're going to try and get a copy of it up on our own high-speed mirror in the next hour (as soon as we finish downloading it), so that the community can get cracking on this thing.

Full RUU files allow developers to get their hands on what are often older flashable ROMs, which may contain unfixed exploits allowing rooting or bootloader unlocking.

Earlier this month we told you that T-Mobile was working to revamp a couple of its pre-paid plans to include unlimited data, and that is finally official as of today.

(Note from David: Except, that data isn't really, truly unlimited. I mean, if you count 2G EDGE [which is what you get when you exceed your cap] as "data," then yes - you can have all the EDGE you can eat. But that's like eating sand. And not beach sand, either - it's dirty playground sand. That is T-Mobile's definition of "unlimited data," and it's nothing but marketing department spew, plain and simple.

Sprint subscribers have been waiting with baited breath for news on the price of the upcoming HTC EVO 3D - and now it seems like that information is all but Sprint-official, thanks to Radioshack.

You can pick up an EVO 3D from the Shack for $200 (on a 2-year contract, of course) - trouble is, no one knows when you actually go about doing that, as there's no confirmed launch date for the EVO 3D at this point. However, you can pre-order an EVO 3D from Radioshack right now, and feel at least a little more assured as to the price you'll be paying.

We knew it was coming. We've known for a while, in fact. But as summer draws near, reality is starting to set in: unlimited data is coming to an end on Verizon. For real. Here's what you need to know (based on what we know): Verizon's CFO told Reuters at a tech conference that tiered data will be implemented this summer, and that all unlimited data options will be eliminated. There was also a suggestion that family plans may (eventually - not with the launch of tiers) get data pooled in a fashion similar to minutes - eliminating the need for individual data plans.

Verizon's LTE network is probably the hottest thing smokin' right now as far as networks are concerned, and, as of today, it has been expanded to nine more major metropolitan areas including Mobile and Montgomery, Alabama; Greater Fairfield and New Haven, Connecticut; Gainesville, Pensacola, and Tallahassee, Folorida; Fayetteville-Lumberton, North Carolina; and Bryan-College Station and Temple-Killeen, Texas.

Also included in this rollout is an expansion to five areas that currently have LTE coverage: Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

VZW4G

This brings the total number of covered metropolitan areas up to 55 now, which isn't bad considering that VZW just started rolling out LTE in December of 2010.

Droid-life just broke the news: the Revolution is coming, on May 26th, to be precise.

That's right - the LG Revolution, Verizon's third 4G LTE smartphone, is dropping next Thursday to a Verizon near you - packing a 4.3" WVGA display, a 1GHz MSM-series Snapdragon processor (same one you'll find in the Thunderbolt), and a 16GB SD card pre-installed.

The revolution has received a cosmetic touch-up for its debut next week, and now sports a sleek black battery cover and frame (it was brushed aluminum-look, previously), take a look:

We took a look at the Revolution (hands-on here) way back at CES in January, and I had some time to play with it at CTIA back in March.
