Motorola_XOOM

We've seen the XOOM hit some pretty low prices lately, but this one is rock-bottom. For a limited time, you can get the Wi-Fi version of the world's first Android Honeycomb tablet for a mere $450 from Staples when you use the attached coupon (see below). That's an insane deal for this tablet, as it's still one of the best Android tablets on the market:

  • 10.1 inch 1280x800 display
  • 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB built-in storage
  • 5MP rear camera, 2MP up front
  • Stock Android 3.1

There you go - print the coupon, head to your local Staples, and leave with a brand new XOOM.

The unnamed dual-core 10.1-inch Toshiba Android tablet that we got to play with at CES this year has oddly remained anonymous for an extraordinary amount of time - in fact, we still don't really know what its final name will be. An earlier rumor suggested it could be called "Antares," and today's freshly discovered Newegg pages curiously neither confirm nor deny that name, simply listing its 3 variants as ANT-100, ANT-102, and ANT-104. Could ANT be short for Antares? Sure. Could they both be just internal codenames? Just as well.

Besides the model numbers, Newegg let us in on the pricing structure for the 3 models:

All tablet variants are equipped with Wi-Fi and aren't tied to a specific cellular provider, providing a few sweet spots for those who don't need the full 32GB of memory (I'm having trouble seeing the XOOM selling well after this at all at $600).

Google I/O, a conference dedicated entirely to Google technologies and hosted in San Francisco's Moscone Center, is fast approaching, and Google today opened up early registration to key developer partners and 2010 I/O attendees. Early reg, available to the first 1500 people who complete it, costs $450 ($100 more than last year). Don't worry though - when it goes public next week, the price is going to stay the same until April 17th, at which point it will go up another $100 to $550 (thanks for the correction, Philip!). Unfortunately, unless you've received a personal invitation, you will not be able to proceed with the early signup and will have to wait until February 7th.
