During the Q&A section of Motorola's Moto 360 Hangout today, a few interesting questions surfaced. In typical industry fashion, however, Motorola wasn't quite ready to give any sort of definitive answers on many of them. Still, there were a few small gems in the mix, including a big one on everyone's mind: will it work with all Android devices, or just those manufactured by Motorola? The answer was very clear: it will work with all (assumingly current) Motorola devices, as well as all others running Android 4.3 and above.
There's little denying that Apple rules the smartphone world. The company sells just one phone model, yet that sole model constitutes 8.8% - or roughly 1 in 11 - of all worldwide smartphone sales and 73% of profits. iOS is the second most popular smartphone OS in the US after Android with 31.4% of the market (Android has 50.8%). Windows Phone 7, on the other hand, has just 4% of the US smartphone market, yet it's Microsoft that we have to worry about.
While we're not looking at an impartial source here - or at some real numbers, facts, or figures - mobile giant (and company behind the Tegra series of chips) NVIDIA has released a slide showing console, PC, and mobile graphics performance from 2001 and estimates to 2014. According to their roadmap, mobile devices will have the graphics performance of the Xbox 360 by 2013, and surpass by 2014.
Certainly looks impressive from my spot here in early 2012, but we'll just have to see when we get there.
An Android Central forums member managed to find the 360° view Flash file for the HTC Merge, and Phil @ AC was smart enough to grab a video of it in action before it was pulled. It's nice to finally be able to see how this guy looks all the way around - a screen and keyboard shot only gets you so far, after all.
A bit gaudy for my tastes, but I'm a simple kind of man.
