The games are underway in London and the whole world is watching. If you'd like to follow the course of the events without spending the next couple weeks glued to your television, Yahoo! may just have you covered. The app is decidedly slick-looking, though some users have reported some trouble with the app, however in our test runs, it's worked adequately. Your mileage may vary.

The app has sections for news, photos, and quick access to which countries have won what medals for which events. Because, really, isn't that why we all watch? The app seems fully featured for the casual viewer, though it lacks any video streams, so it's not quite the complete experience, but it should be plenty to keep you update while you're away from the telly.

After announcing its financials for the second quarter with money bleeding left and right, Sprint decided to follow up the negatives with a few positives and switched subjects to something a little less gory - upcoming 4G LTE markets. Before Labor Day, which happens to be September 3rd this year, the following areas will be lit up with speedy (but probably patchy) LTE:

  • Baltimore, MD
  • Gainesville, GA
  • Manhattan/Junction City, KS
  • Sherman-Denison, TX

Compared to dozens of cities announced at every Verizon and AT&T 4G expansion, Sprint is definitely lagging behind, but we're hoping they will be picking up the pace towards the end of the year and into next year when the Network Vision rollout is supposed to be completed.

We've already seen official Olympics 2012 streaming apps for both the UK and the US, promising great mobile coverage of this year's games, but Bell Media recently introduced another solution, this time for Canadian Android users looking to stay up to date on the action in London.

CTV Olympics London 2012's main feature is, of course, live streaming video of the games, but the app also offers several other features that will keep users entertained and tuned in.

Among these are up-to-the-minute video highlights, a trivia game that offers daily prizes from Samsung, and a series of "Ultimate Fan" challenges offering users the chance to attend the closing ceremony in London.

With the 2012 Olympics rapidly approaching, television networks across the world are gearing up to cover every live event. NBC has gone one step further and released not one, but two Android apps to help you keep with everything that's going on across the pond.

At this point, both apps are lacking in the content department, which actually makes sense as the games don't actually start until the end of this month. It's also worth mentioning that neither app is available for wide variety of different devices yet, but both have a note stating that "additional support for Android handhelds and tablets will be coming soon."

Each app offers its own unique set of content:

NBC Olympics

1 2 3

  • Pre-games news
  • Video highlights
  • Photo galleries
  • In-depth look at Team USA
  • Hometown coverage
  • Sports Info
  • Twitter tracker
  • Results and schedules
  • Media counts
  • TV & Online listings
  • Primetime companion
  • Push notifications for breaking news

NBC Olympics Live Extra

4 5 6

  • Video on demand
  • Live coverage of all events
  • Full event replays
  • Channels
  • Gold Zone for watching Gold Medal events
  • Alternative camera views
  • Push notifications
  • DVR Capabilities for most events

Best of all, both apps are completely free, so hit the widgets, and get ready for some Olympic Game action.

What would be another month without another quick roundup of our top five favorite apps? For those just joining us, our monthly "top five" roundups are meant as a quick primer for those who don't have time to wade through the dozens upon dozens of awesome apps we've looked at in the course of the past four weeks. We've selected the cream of the crop, and taken a quick look at five of our favorite apps from June 2012.

Tasker App Factory

First up is Tasker App Factory, an app that, though still in beta, easily gains a spot in our top five for June 2012 thanks to its incredible potential and versatile functionality.

MLB.com's At Bat 2012 app, which we covered at its launch, and which bills itself as "the #1 sports app of all time" and "the official app of Major League Baseball," has seen a rather significant price reduction, recently sliding from $14.99 to just $9.99 in the Play Store.

The app, for those baseball fans who have until now not discovered this gem, is essentially a one-stop source for mobile updates and supplemental media related to games both in progress and those that are already over. Offering radio broadcasts, free "Game of the Day" video, and in-progress video highlights, this app is definitely a must-have for fans of MLB.

With the arrival of a new monthly roundup of apps comes a roundup of our six favorite games. May 2012 saw the addition of a slew of worthy games to the Play Store, but naturally a few stood out above the rest. In this roundup, we'll briefly discuss what we consider to be the top six games released in May of 2012.

Machinarium

Machinarium, which we both announced and reviewed last month, was a no-brainer for inclusion in the monthly game roundup. Though it's only (really) compatible with tablets, this game is positively brilliant for a number of reasons. The game follows the story of Josef, a robot who must venture past the scrap heap to save his robot girlfriend in the city.

If tennis isn't your thing, then I'll see you later! Now, for the rest of you, get ready to download one of the most important tennis-related apps of the year. The French Open has its own app in the Play Store right now. The app allows tennis fans to keep track of the schedule of the two-week event, get alerts before and during the event, and integrates relevant Facebook and Twitter updates, as well as real-time stats.

The event starts on May 27th and lasts for two weeks. The app will start warming up on May 22nd, though, so sports fans can get started scratching that itch early.

Bringing the "world's best-selling Football management game" to Android users everywhere, SEGA recently introduced Football Manager Handheld 2012 to the Play Store recently, giving players the opportunity to "take the hot-seat at any club" including leagues in 12 countries (across several continents), with full control over team management from training to tactics to live management during matchdays.

Besides offering a lengthy career mode in which players can experience a full career in a given country's league, Football Manager Handheld 2012 allows for quick play via Challenge Mode, in which players will complete "a particular short-term scenario with a clear goal to be achieved."

The game utilizes Sports Interactive's "huge global scouting network" for accurate real-life research, offering players realistic situations with actual players.
