[MWC 2012] ASUS Unveils The Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700T), Packs Tegra 3 Or Snapdragon S4 Under A 1920x1200 Super IPS Display

Back at CES, ASUS lit a bit of a wildfire by announcing a new iteration of the Transformer Prime with the model number TF700T. ASUS insisted that this new Prime would not replace the old Prime. To further drive that point home, the Taiwanese company has rebranded the TF700T as the Transformer Pad Infinity and placed it on the top rung of its rather varied tablet ladder.

Here's the specs for the Transformer Pad Infinity. Chances are they'll look a little familiar:

  • Display: 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 Super IPS+

Starting at $599, the Infinity is now ASUS' most expensive and most powerful tablet.

[MWC 2012] ASUS Sets Its Sights On The Mid-Range Tablet Market With The Transformer Pad 300 Series: 10.1" Tegra 3 Tablets For $399

ASUS continues its domination of the Android tablet market with the introduction of the Transformer Pad 300 Series. While the naming scheme for ASUS' tablets may be reaching near-Samsung levels of confusing, the new mid-range tablets look to be a great way to get yourself a 10" tablet without breaking the bank.

The tablet packs the same Tegra 3 SoC as its big brother, though we'd imagine it's clocked a little slower than the Prime and Infinity variants. It also contains the same 22Whr battery and 1GB of RAM. The major difference, thankfully, isn't in lower specs or older versions of Android, but in materials.

[Deal Alert] Motorola Selling Xyboard Tablets With Free Portfolio Case And HD Dock Starting At $399

While Motorola tablets may not exactly be flying off the shelves, that hasn't stopped Motorola from trying everything they can to sell them. Occasionally they're even a pretty good deal! For example, right now you can get the 8.2" Xyboard with a free portfolio case (normally $39) and HD dock (normally $49) for $399. If 10.1" tablets are more your style, you can get the same deal on the larger model for $499. Both tablets are WiFi-only with 16GB of onboard storage.

All the negative stigma attached to the Xoom aside, the Xyboard is a decent tablet. While it's only sporting a dual-core processor instead of the quad-cores inside tablets like the Transformer Prime, it still holds up pretty well for a tablet that effectively starts at about $310.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Or 10.1 LTE Coming To AT&T At Some Point According To FCC Filing

We try to avoid excessive posts about FCC filings that may or may not be for Android goodies coming to the US, but this one was a dead giveaway for AT&T. Just take a look:

The guys over at WirelessGoodness dug up this picture from a recent FCC filing, and it clearly shows the device is either a Tab 10.1 or 8.9, and that it has the official AT&T 4G LTE logo. Hard to call that a "rumor." It seems likely that AT&T will announce the device before the holiday season.

Rumor: A 10-Inch Kindle Tablet Is Probably Coming In Time For The Holidays

When we reported that Amazon was working on a number of Android devices earlier this year, shortly thereafter, reports began surfacing that the company would release two Android tablets before year's end, one 7", the other 10". The 7" device, now known as the Kindle Fire, is obviously for real.

But what about its supposed big brother? At this point, it seems almost imminent that it will be released. It also sounds very much like Amazon will unveil this bigger, better, Fiery-er device in time for Christmas in the US, and now we've got at least two reasons to think this is happening.

Official: Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE Goes On Sale July 28 Starting At $530

While not entirely unexpected, Verizon and Samsung have pulled a bit of a ninja act with the LTE Tab 10.1. We haven't heard a word about it lately, yet an official announcement has just landed in our inbox announcing it will go on sale in two days. The ubertablet will run from $530 for the 16GB model to $630 for the 32GB model, a $30 premium over the WiFi version. As an added bonus, Tab 10.1 purchasers will get a free $25 credit for the Samsung Media Hub.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is probably the best Android tablet you can spend you hard-earned dollars on at the moment, and at this price (10% off retail), it's certainly not a bad buy. And we definitely liked it. This is the smaller 16GB model, presumably the most popular choice among consumers - so it's a bit odd to see retailers are having to put up discounts to offload them already.

Editorial: Android Tablets - Is It Just A Summer Fling, Or Are Manufacturers Here To Stay?

I've been thinking about writing this editorial for some time now. And today, with the announcement of Panasonic's upcoming Toughbook Android tablet, I finally decided to go for it. The point this article is trying to make may not be abundantly clear in the title, so let me see if I can get it across as a question: Is it just me, or are there a suspiciously large number of companies in or planning to enter the Android tablet market?

It sounds like a silly question to ask. And to a degree, it's not exactly a hugely relevant question, either. Who really cares how many companies are trying to get into the tablet market?
