Google will be unveiling the successor to Lollipop at Google I/O in just a few days, but we won't get a real name. It will likely just be called Android M until it's released, but Google has an internal code name just as it did for L and K. Apps with tens of millions of users tend to either spend a lot of time and effort conforming to Android's visual standards... or spend none at all, considering their own cross-platform UI more important. Dropbox has tended to fall into the former category, but it's taken them a while to get on board with the Material Design standards introduced with Android 5.0. That changes today: version 126.96.36.199 adds a new UI that follows the Material Design playbook. For the most part, anyway.

The app opens up to your root Dropbox folder, and the tabbed interface is gone - if you want to look at your files in the Photos or Favorites view, you'll have to open the side menu. Read More
Google keeps patiently improving the ecosystem surrounding the Chromecast and its various software tie-ins. But the latest trick is casting not to a gadget or screen, but to a conversation. At least some users are now able to cast tabs to a video Hangouts session, allowing the recipient to watch the video (or whatever else you've got in that tab) without a cumbersome link. It doesn't seem to be live for everyone, but check out your Chromecast extension if you'd like to try it out.
The system seems to prefer an active conversation. It won't let you cast to a Hangouts conversation that only includes you, for example, and it won't go for a Hangout which someone has opened but not yet joined. Read More
NVIDIA promised a 5.1 update for the Shield tablet would hit devices this month, and it looks like the company is making good. We've got numerous tips that say the update is available right now on the WiFi tablet. Head to the settings and grab it at your earliest convenience.
