Owners of the unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus (yakju) are waking up to an OTA update notification this morning that is said to fix the signal loss issues which came along with build IMM76D. Since this new build (IMM76I) doesn't bump the Android version, kernel, or radios at all, however, we're not sure if the update makes any other changes (though it's unlikely).

If you've been looking to jump ship from the carrier juggernauts and get in on Sprint's promised "truly unlimited data", may we suggest now might be a good time to do so? From now until March 26th, all of Sprint's 4G phones (read: Sprint's best phones) are available for a penny with a new activation. Sorry upgraders.

Update 4/20/12: All Sprint Android phones are free again thanks to the Sprint Through Spring promotion...

Facebook for Android has been updated to version 1.9, bringing performance improvements (read: faster feed scrolling), a some new picture sharing and messaging features. You may not be able to get it quite yet on the device Play Store, but forcing the download from the web Play Store should do the trick, as usual. Here's the changelog:

-Improved performance and various bug fixes

-More messaging features like creating group messages and adding friends to existing group conversations

-Shortcuts to share photos and messages right from your home screen

I've already noticed smoother operation in the main feed when scrolling, and the new photo share button on the main feed page is pretty handy, too.

Drive

There's really no point in denying it anymore for the folks up at Mountain View. Google's cloud storage solution, likely to be called Google Drive, is happening. In today's Android developer Hangout when the Googlers were talking about apps, the Drive icon and name can be clearly seen in the Android sharing menu.

The developer phone in the video could have a fully functional version of Drive running on it, which would lend some credence to the rumor that the service could be launched next week.

Here's a bit of good news for all of you who have an unlocked (global) Samsung Galaxy S II here in the U.S.: Ice Cream Sandwich is being pushed to your device right now. This makes the global GSII the first of the GSII family to officially get Ice Cream Sandwich in the U.S., as none of the three American carriers that offer the phone have begun sending the update yet.

Looks like Big Red is on a roll with the OTA updates this week. First the RAZR/MAXX and Droid 4, then the LG Spectrum, and now the Casio G'zOne Commando. If you don't remember, the all but forgotten G'zOne is Casio's rugged offering to the Android world, packing lightweight specs in a heavyweight shell.

The OTA update, which is build number C771M110 for those who like to keep up with that sort of thing, brings a number of enhancements and fixes:

As always, we expect the update to begin rolling out at any time now, but you can check to see if the update is available on your device by going into Settings > About phone > System updates > Check New.

Update: We've gotten official word from Sprint - the EVO 3D is officially on the way out:

The award-winning HTC EVO 3D is no longer available through Sprint.com. Quantities are limited, but customer can still get HTC EVO 3D at Sprint Stores nationwide.

Sprint PR

So here's an interesting little fact: if you go to Sprint's site right now and look for the EVO 3D, you won't find it. Really.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of headphones as part of my hardware review routine. I've listened to expensive ones. Slightly less expensive ones. Hilariously cheap ones. You get the picture.

So when a Swedish headphone company by the name of Nocs got in touch with me, I was a bit surprised - because I didn't know they existed. And there's a good reason for that (sort of): Nocs has specialized in making solely Apple-friendly headphone products.

If you haven't noticed yet, AP comments are now powered by Disqus. It took a really long time to squash all integration bugs and accept some downsides of moving to a non-native comment system, but when two complicated systems and over a hundred thousand comments are involved, migration gets a little tricky (to say the least).

After studying the code of the Disqus plugin to the point that I am now familiar with it more intimately than I ever cared to be, over 200 emails with the Disqus team, reporting multiple bugs and submitting code patches, many sleepless nights, ripped our hairs, and cursing, I was finally satisfied enough to pull the trigger last Saturday night.
