V-CAST

It is profoundly unlikely that when you think about getting apps, you consider heading over to Verizon's VCast App Store. Apparently no one else was doing so either, because Big Red has announced via its developer site that it is shuttering the VCast store in January. I will give you a moment to silently weep before continuing.

The VCast Apps storefront was delivered to a handful of Verizon's Android devices starting back in late 2010.

If you're not much a classic car nut, and you were to walk up to a stylish little 1968 Opel GT, like this one, you'd probably think "Wow, is that... Italian? It must be fast (for its age)."

Of course, you would be wrong. The Opel GT is, in fact, based on the rather pedestrian Opel Kadett - seen here. The GT was not particularly quick, expensive, or really even that rare.

Google announced in a statement today that Wisconsin Judge Barbara Crabb has dismissed Apple's lawsuit against Motorola Mobility claiming the Google-owned Moto's practices related to standards-essential patent licensing were unfair.

The lawsuit was set to go to trial in US District Court in Madison, Wisconsin this afternoon but was, according to Google, dismissed with prejudice by Judge Crabb this morning. Readers may remember that a similar Apple vs Motorola trial was canceled in Illinois by Judge Richard Posner earlier this year.

I'm a big fan of EA's Need For Speed series - according to Steam, I played Hot Pursuit for over 50 hours on my PC. Their latest addition to the cops 'n' racers stable is Most Wanted, hotly anticipated on consoles because it's from the racing pros at Criterion. But for those without an Xbox or PC and an abundance of mobile horsepower, EA offers the Android version, for a reasonable $7.

If you missed this deal a couple weeks ago, then you're in luck. Today, ebay Daily Deals has the international Galaxy Note II available for a second time. For round two, the price has dropped slightly lower to $579 for the unlocked phone. More specifically, this is for the white, 16GB model.

Again, while the retail price of this phone is around $800, you can still find it online for $660 on a normal day.

Remember when you were in grade school, and your parent or teacher told you to apologize to the other kid? And you'd reply, "I'm sorry that Johnny has a big stupid face and he made me want to punch it"? Apple's been doing the same thing, except in this case the kids are billion-dollar international companies. With big stupid faces.

By now you've probably seen Apple's original apology to Samsung, ordered by the UK court to punish the company's assertion that Samsung wholly copied the iPad design.

Yes, we know, Disney bought Lucasfilm. No, there aren't going to be any spoilers about the plot, director, amount of direct involvement from George Lucas, or any other details about the upcoming Episode VII movie, no matter how much you (meaning me) want there to be so you (again, me) can stop worrying. What we do have is birds with force powers, giant flying fuzzballs, and, allegedly, the droids you're looking for.

Starting Friday, you can get your hands on an LTE-enabled variant of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for AT&T, for $500 sans contractual obligation. And, if you buy a Samsung Galaxy smartphone (read: a Galaxy S III) with a new 2-year agreement on AT&T, they'll give you $100 off on a Tab 2 10.1. And that... might be of interest to you. This AT&T edition is also $50 cheaper than Sprint's.

As we know by now, Google Wallet has been facing a lot of resistance. Major US carriers are blocking it while competition is getting intense. Google's fighting back, though, and word has it that new partnerships may be in the works. More importantly, Google is primed to  introduce a physical Google Wallet card.
