T2Ultra-Thumb

Sony has announced an impending software update for the Xperia T2 Ultra and the T2 Ultra Dual that will deliver Android 4.4 to both devices. The update contains the changes introduced by KitKat, but it also tosses in a number of Sony-exclusive touches.

Sony's designers have tweaked the status bar and quick settings to make them easier on the eyes, and they've tossed in new animations at launch and on the homescreen that may look familiar to PlayStation 4 owners.

XperiaZ2Tablet-Thumb

The Xperia Z2 Tablet is just about ready to hit the US, and as expected, it's coming as a Verizon exclusive. The carrier will part with the tablet for $599.99, though for a limited time, it's willing to let go of one for $499.99 with a new two-year contract (how nice of them, right?). Pre-orders are going up tomorrow, with the tablet becoming available for purchase in stores and online July 17th.

Back in the 90s, I remember PlayStation games that had warnings that would display on the screen before the action started, stating that the game might just give you seizures. Wave Wave does not include a seizure warning, but it probably should. Between thumping chiptune music, a playing field that's constantly shifting perspective, and difficulty that's beyond insane, it could easily become the next game that mobile players everywhere will love to hate.

Two men, each a hardened warrior, each with a single goal: survive. Their wills are iron, their bodies are steel, and their entire being is wrapped around the intensity of their deadly purpose. Only one will stand victorious at the bitter end, and each will give anything, and everything, to make sure that it's him.

You've got to give props to Epic Games: they know how to make a good tech demo.

Mickey-Thumb

Back in the 90s, I was a Genesis kid, but I missed out on the 2D platforming classic Castle of Illusion. This game starred Mickey Mouse and was one of the more popular titles available to tide console owners over until the release of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Last fall a completely new HD version hit the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, PC, and iOS, giving newcomers a chance to experience the adventure for the first time and long-time fans a reimagined take on the world they may have forgotten.

Game controllers for Android are a dime a dozen these days, and most of the newest ones do very little to inherently change anything. They're basically all the same Xbox or PlayStation-like designs that may or may not allow a phone to clip to them. The Phonejoy wants to change that with its controller, an interestingly designed unit that actually opens up and holds the device to replicate a PS Vita-type gadget.

Ask a few JRPG fans about their favorite games of all time and you're bound to hear some of them wax nostalgic for Dragon Quest VIII. After selling nearly 5 million copies worldwide, Square Enix is bringing the Playstation 2 hit to Android. Prepare to set out on the road with Yangus, Jessica, and Angelo on an epic quest to lift the curse that threatens your kingdom. However, in typical Square Enix style, your journey isn't going to be cheap.

Gamers who've been living under a priceless hand-carved ancient monolith might not know about Uncharted, a series of PlayStation-exclusive action adventure games that have sold tens of millions of copies across three titles. The odds of us getting an Android port of Uncharted are somewhere between slim and none. But you can get a shameless copy of Uncharted-style gaming with Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta, available now on the Play Store.

WatchDogs-Thumb

As a game centered around using a smartphone to get ahead on the streets of Chicago, it's only natural that Watch Dogs would get a companion app. But this isn't your typical bonus offering that just provides a mini-map, some background information, and a few doodads. Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS is a multiplayer extension to the main game. While console or PC players are doing everything they can to make it from checkpoint to checkpoint, mobile gamers are giving their all to stop them.

Trials-Thumb

Ubisoft's Trials series has been hitting the track for years now, challenging players to perform fantastical tricks atop their motorbikes while hurtling through the air. The franchise has typically stuck to PCs as Java and flash games, but later versions have made the jump to consoles. Now the first mobile release has exited limited geo beta and is now available for all.

Trials

The game's challenge derives from its off the wall physics-based tracks, as navigating them alone can be difficult enough without the pressure of building up high scores.
