Thus far Milk Music has provided a fat-free experience. Since launching two months ago, the music streaming app has been straightforward, rather minimalist, and ad-free. But after taking time to reflect on the matter, Samsung's decided that perhaps a little bit of fat wound be healthier long-term. So the company's adding ads to the free version of the software, with a new ad-free premium subscription soon to launch for $3.99 a month.

The Konami classic Contra came to Android last year, but despite the healthy dose of nostalgia, Contra: Evolution wasn't an awesome experience. The introductory price was $0.99, but the gameplay was bogged down by in-app purchases. Now the game has gone free, and the IAPs have been tweaked a bit.

One of the more inflammatory stories in the world of gaming over the last few months has been the rise of casual game publisher King and its emphatic defense of its "Candy Crush Saga" intellectual property. After applying for trademarks on the terms "Candy" and "Saga" for video game and clothing applications, King opposed the trademark application of the PC Viking-themed RPG The Banner Saga.

Both of these games include "Saga" in the title.

Update: One commenter noticed that the new colors of the DROID MAXX have 16GB of storage, not 32GB like the original matte version. For shame, Verizon/Moto, especially since the MAXX has no microSD card slot. Thanks, Jason Stanton!

When Verizon launched the latest generation of Motorola DROID phones back in August, the long-lasting DROID MAXX was only offered in a matte black color. It seems a little belated, but as of today Verizon is selling the Moto flagship in two new color options: glossy red, and matte black with new silver trim on the speaker grille, Motorola badge, power button, and volume rocker.

If you've already splurged and bought a FireTV, you've probably noticed one pretty annoying thing: the much-touted voice search feature only shows Amazon content. That makes it far less helpful than it could be. Thankfully, Amazon realizes this and announced today that it will be working with Hulu, Crackle, and Showtime to bring voice search features to their respective apps. That's fantastic news.

For those who may not be familiar with FireTV's voice search option, it's pretty simple: hit the mic button and speak into the remote.

If you have anything from Belkin's WeMo line, there's a chance you may be less-than-pleased with the app – it is pretty basic, after all. Today's update, however, brings some much-needed usefulness to the table, like better integration with IFTTT, and a home security enhancement.

What's New

  • Greater flexibility when scheduling events related to sunrise and sunset.
  • New Rule: Away Mode makes it look you’re home even when you’re not.
  • New IFTTT trigger: long-press the Light Switch to trigger customizable IFTTT recipes without turning on the light.

So we all know that Project Tango is cool – programing a mobile device to be aware of its own surroundings just as people are can be potentially beneficial in many ways. NASA has clearly seen something in the in Tango as well, as the company has been working with Google since last year to utilize the project with its own robotic platform called SPHERES. In a nutshell, it wants to incorporate Tango into autonomous, space-aware robots that will take some of the load off of astronauts on the International Space Station by doing some of the work for them.

So. Sprint. About that KitKat 4.4.3 update you mentioned for the Nexus 5. You haven't seen it lying around anywhere, have you? Because we certainly haven't. And neither have any of our readers.

Untitled-2

Wherefore art thou, KTU84F? Huh. Doesn't have the same ring.

Apparently something has gone wrong over at Sprint, because not only have we not seen the 4.4.3 KTU84F software update headed for any Nexus 5 units, the Sprint support page has removed the brief mention of 4.4.3 from its update chart.

The ladies and gents at Dropbox have big dreams - look no further than their recent expansion into email and photo gallery apps for evidence of that fact. And like any company with high aspirations, they're snapping up technology and the associated talent at a fast pace. In the last 18 months the company has bought e-readers, photo tools, and even a Craigslist-style marketplace. Today they've announced the acquisition of two more apps and the companies that make them.

Glass-Thumb

Two days ago, Google Glass received the XE16 update that bumped the device up to KitKat, introduced photo bundles, brought in sorted voice commands, and added a number of other features. This release was different for a few reasons, the most notable of which being the long wait (the last release was XE12 back in December).

Now the Glass team has released the update's system image to the Internet. The file is available for download from the usual location.
