So you're one of the Android faithful, but you're also slightly interested in Apple's hardware? What can you do about that? One Nick Lee from development and design studio Tendigi came up with a solution that is both novel and terrible. It's an iPhone case that runs Android. Yes, really. Read More
Asus has promised to release Android Marshmallow for many of its ZenFone devices by the second quarter of 2016 and it seems to be rushing now to make good on its deadline. The first device to get the update was the ZenFone 2 Laser ZE500KL and ZE550KL, and today another model joins it: the ZenFone Max.
The ZenFone Max isn't just good enough to star in a series of speed rapping videos, it's also great if you want a phone that lasts for two days straight thanks to a hefty 5000mAh battery. This update that it should start receiving OTA today is version WW_18.104.22.168. Read More
If you're a regular reader, you'll be familiar with our US Deal Alert posts. The occasional European deal alerts also pop up as well, but as of yet we've had no UK-specific deal alert (or none that I can find, anyway). That changes now, with the Chromecast Audio going down to £15 at Currys.
The Chromecast is normally £30 in the UK, so £15 is a considerable saving. I'm debating buying one despite not having any speakers to use it with (yet). The deal is only for delivery or click and collect - it's not available off the shelf in a Currys brick-and-mortar store. Read More
Alright, so I get that most of what we cover here on Android Police probably goes straight over the head of an average Joe. Honestly, I don't expect anyone but the most hardcore Android enthusiasts to have ever heard of things like Google Play Services, kernel sources, or unlocked bootloaders. Heck, I'm always more than happy to teach people how to set up Google Photos and backup their digital memories for free or to use a Chromecast to mirror video and audio to a TV. It's my job to know this, and I'm fine with other people having different interests.
But sometimes I think the generalized ignorance has gone a bit too far. Read More

The BlackBerry Priv was supposed to be a big step forward for the once-king of smartphones. After having no luck with BlackBerry OS 10, the company launched its first Android phone late last year. The Priv started as an AT&T exclusive, then launched on T-Mobile in late January. Less than five months later, it looks like Tmo is done with the Priv. Read More
If you've been waiting to "smart" up your home theater's audio, Vizio may have just given you incentive to pull the trigger on a purchase with its new SmartCast sound bar collection, launched today. They start at just a paltry $180 for the basic 38" three-driver sound bar and go all the way up to $500 for fully-equipped 5.1 systems. What makes them smart? Well, they're Google Cast enabled right out of the box, meaning you can cast audio to your Vizio SmartCast speakers just like a Chromecast, and that's pretty damn cool.
At launch, Vizio has nine configurations available, so there's probably a setup that fits in a price:performance:practicality bracket for you. Read More
MLB is about as good as it gets when it comes to mobile and streaming presence, but that's no reason for it to rest on its laurels. That's why the latest update to MLB At Bat, the league's Android presence for following live action, brings several significant goodies to both free and premium users. Read More
Despite being well received, the Jaybird X2 wireless earbuds caught some heat for not being significantly different from the first gen version. The new Jaybird Freedom (technically the Freedom F5) wireless earbuds are a different animal entirely. Jaybird has slimmed down the size of the earbuds to make them more comfortable, but says it hasn't sacrificed sound quality. They do look almost impossibly small. I've been taking these earbuds for a spin to see if they are worth the admittedly high $200 price tag. Read More
Snapchat is often bemoaned as one of the worst of the major social apps for Android, but a new update today at least makes a few modernizing UI changes in areas that looked, well, kind of bad. The state of the Snapchat pre-update you can see below, in the three areas where major changes have occurred: the navigation bar, stories, and discover. Read More
