Verizon Wireless has announced that Android 6.0 is on its way to the Galaxy Note 5. That makes this the first Marshmallow-packing over-the-air update to hit the Note 5 in the US. Verizon has beat AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile to the punch. This is also the first Galaxy device on Verizon's network to make the leap. Read More
We've been working with Blu for quite a while now, and the company has been putting out some of its best phones to date over the last few months. With the release of the Life One X (2016) and Vivo 5, Blu has once again set the bar for what a "budget" phone can — and should — be. For $150 and $200 respectively, these are two of the absolute best phones that are available on the market today in this price range.
This contest is now over.
The final results are listed below. If you've won, you will be contacted in the near future.
OnePlus has been hounded pretty regularly in recent months by anxious OP2 owners wondering when Marshmallow is coming. Well, there's an OTA starting to roll out today and... it's not Marshmallow. Still Android 5.1, sorry. It does, however, bring RAW support to the camera, new security patches, and other little fixes. Read More
There is nothing worse than getting into your car as you prepare to leave for work and discovering your battery is dead. You could call AAA - if you have a membership, your parents - if they live close by, or a friend - if you have any of those. Regardless of whom you call, by the time they get there, you are going to be late to work.
The other option is to buy a portable battery pack that doubles as a car jump-starter and keep it in your trunk for just such occasions. There are a ton of different companies that make these things, and today, one of them is on sale. Read More
If I were to say that I'm going to flash a new system image to your Nexus phone without attaching a USB cable, you might think I'm a little crazy. Well, I could be a little crazy, but that thing about the cable is definitely coming true in the very near future. Google has added networking support to the fastboot tool. When paired with a phone with a supported bootloader, it will be possible to perform all of the usual fastboot commands wirelessly.
In a recent commit to AOSP, support for the TCP protocol was added to fastboot. The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of the basic building blocks of communication on the Internet, used for reliable transmission of data from one point to another. Read More
HTC left Mobile World Congress to Samsung and LG, preferring to have the stage to itself when it announces its 2016 flagship in a month or two. Some of the wind has been taken out of HTC's sails today with multiple leaks of the "HTC 10." Read More
Opera might be getting ready to be sold out to a Consortium of Chinese companies, but that's not stopping the Norwegian team from updating the different apps and browsers under its umbrella. The most recent update touches Opera Beta, the open beta version of the full fledged browser (not Opera Mini). It upgrades the browser's codebase to Chromium 49, which as you'll recall enables Physical Web support with Bluetooth connectivity inside the browser for beacons for example.
The most significant change in the interface is a new tab switcher and selector similar to the one that's been active in Opera Mini for a while. Read More
If you've ever tried playing an odd video format on your phone, chances are you've used one of a couple of well known video players like MX or VLC. After a slow start, the latter has been receiving rather frequent updates and improvements that keep pushing it forward. VLC also has an active beta program (of which you can be a part by joining this Google+ community and then becoming a tester on the Play Store) and its latest release is version 1.9.0 which is actually a beta for version 2.0.0. Let's pretend that's not unnecessarily convoluted and move on. Read More
Google is running another of its big app promotions today through March 10th, and that means you can get some great deals on popular stuff like Today Calendar and djay 2. The recent Poweramp and Nova Launcher sale is also part of this promo, but that's just the start. Note: these deals are available in a lot of countries, usually at the lowest regular price in that country's currency. There are also some unrelated sales going on, so we're lumping it all together.
