Droid X2 owners should be keeping an eye out for a new OTA set to roll out "soon," bringing the device's build up to 1.3.418.MB870. The OTA is pretty light, coming in at around 35MB, and bringing a small handful of enhancements and fixes to the X2, which debuted almost one year ago. Included in the update are Verizon's Video and VZ Navigator 3D City, Google's security patch, Wireless Alerting System compatibility, and a few other small improvements.
Widgets are one of Android's best advantages over other mobile platforms. Unfortunately, not as many app developers give attention to widgets as we'd like, which only makes us appreciate Beautiful Widgets even more. The famous clock/weather/battery widget developer, LevelUp Studio, is updating its suite of widgets with support for multiple weather forecasts and, more awesome than that, a web store for discovering/installing widget skins.
Taking a cue from Google's Play Store*, you can connect your Google account to the Beautiful Widgets Skins Market and automagically send skins to your device over the air and apply them without ever touching your device.
In 2011, Archos put out two lines of tablets: the low end (and lesser relevant) Arnova line, and the higher-end G9 series - its first to receive Google certification (which is required in order to offer the Play Store). This year, we can expect a bit more rearranging from the company, as it will offer three lines of tablet: the low-end Arnova, mid-range Elements, and high-end G10xs series.
The company today unveiled some details about the G10xs series, revealing that it will be intro-ing three new high-end devices this year, including 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch models.
Those of you from the early days of Android may remember App Inventor - a Google project that allowed people to create apps for Android by dragging and dropping bits of code - no programming experience required. More recently, Google transferred the App Inventor to MIT, where it was open sourced. But the App Inventor (AI) is still a bit tricky to just open and jump right in to - a proper guide through the AI would allow someone to utilize its full potential, and create more complex apps in less time.
I have a confession to make: I'm a system stat whore. Not just on my PCs, either - I want to know what's up on all my devices, all the time. I've been using OS Monitor on my tablets for quite a while now, and while the information it provides is useful, it doesn't encompass all of the info that I wanted to see at a glance. Furthermore, it doesn't offer support for quad-core devices like the Transformer Prime.
If you haven't already been touched by Verizon's stupid-fast 4G LTE network, then tomorrow may be the day. Big Red will flip the switch on seven new markets, including:
- Dothan and Enterprise, AL
- Naples, FL
- Greenville, NC
- Altus and Durant, OK
- Longview/Marshall, TX
Also on its quest for world domination (at least on the cellular level), VZW will expand its LTE market in 17 existing markets:
When it comes to the checkout lane, we're used to seeing some pretty outdated systems running behind the counter. Most PoS (point-of-sale, guys) systems are still sporting the classic black screen with white boxy text and are both outdated and impractical. Casio thinks that it's time to bring PoS systems out of the stone age, and what better way to do that than with Android?
The new Casio VX-100 is an Android-powered EPoS system that brings with it a whole new way to run the front lines of a retail environment.
Yesterday, a great thread titled Share One Awesome Tip or Trick You Do With Your Android Phone, I'll Start... popped up on Reddit, and thinking I would be already aware of all the little tricks, I almost ignored it. By the end of the day, seeing over 100 comments piqued my curiosity, so I checked it out.
If you've been longing for some sort of old-school Gamecube action on your Android device and happen to love monkeys trapped in transparent balls, then today is your lucky day - Sega released Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition in all of its pink fluffy goodness to the
Android Market Play Store.
For the uninitiated, Super Monkey Ball is a classic game in which you control one of four playable monkeys encased in a translucent ball though a series of twists and turns to reach the goal.
