Oppo N1 With CyanogenMod Review: You Have To Start Somewhere

The Oppo N1 isn't a phone you'd expect to see sold in markets like the United States. It's eccentric and, frankly, kind of weird. A rear touchpad panel? A swiveling camera? A 5.9" display? Official CyanogenMod support from the factory? It has "niche" written all over it (not literally, but that would be kind of funny, I suppose). As such, the N1's appeal in western markets is likely to be limited to the enthusiast audience, an audience Android Police has long entertained.

[New App] Rec. Uses Native Android 4.4 Screen Recording And Adds A Ton Of Additional Features (Root Only)

Android 4.4 finally added native screen recording, but it's only accessible via an ADB command on unrooted devices. There are a few apps that extend that functionality with root access, but Rec. might be the best of the bunch right now. This app includes bitrate adjustment, record times up to 1 hour, ending recordings manually, and more.

SwipePad Gets Blacklist Option In Latest Update, Can Now Prevent Itself From Activating When Certain Apps Are Open

SwipePad is a gesture-based app switcher that lets users open a selection of apps without exiting the one they're in beforehand. The latest update isn't a large one, but it's bound to make using the launcher slightly less annoying. Now users have the option to select apps that should disable SwipePad's functionality while they are running. The recently updated version of Carbon, with its new slide-out view, is an example of one such app that could benefit from this option.

We featured the DraStic Nintendo DS emulator way back when it launched and came away impressed. Sony Launching Case For Xperia Z Ultra To Accommodate QX10/QX100 Lens Camera

How's that new Google Play Edition Xperia Z Ultra? Pocket-stretchingly good, you say? The Z Ultra's massive frame might be an advantage in some regards, but it's a problem in others – Sony's QX10/QX100 lens cameras don't mount quite right. The company will be rectifying that with a new Z Ultra case that has an attachment for the lenses, so you can finally rest easy.

Carbon Twitter Client Updated To Version 2.0 With An All-New, All-Black Interface

Carbon is back, Twitter addicts, and it is indeed back in black. The 2.0 revision of the popular Twitter client is like the all-black Charger with tinted windows and zero badges - it's so nondescript that you just can't help but notice it. The updated app is live in the Play Store now, and the token issues that plagued the initial release seem to be absent, at least for the moment.

Multiple Developers Seeing Influx Of Unexplained 1-Star Ratings Since Launch Of Play Store's New 'Quick Rating' Widget

Earlier this month an update to the Play Store began rolling out with a brand new ratings widget appearing on the main landing page and within landing pages for each major section (Apps, Movies, Books, etc.) The simple card encouraged users to give a score of 1 to 5 stars on a previously downloaded (or claimed) item in exchange for some suggestions about similar items they might be interested in. While this seemed like a relatively innocuous addition, obviously intended to drive additional downloads, it seems to have had a unexpected negative effect: Several developers are reporting a drastic rise in 1-star ratings on otherwise successful apps.
