So here's a new one: a carrier-branded device is going to get an Android version bump while its Wi-Fi only counterparts are stuck on an older version. This is against everything we've seen in the Android world since the dawn of time, where Wi-Fi devices normally surpass their cellular-connect brethren on a regular basis. To make the situation even more interesting, we're talking about Verizon devices here.

Here's the skinny: Motorola recently updated its upgrade page for the Verizon Xyboard twins, stating that they would each get updated to Android 4.1.

K-9 Mail is what you get when you take the default Android email client and make it, erm, better. It made the jump this week to version 4.4 and now sports a more holo-themed user interface, rich notifications for Android 4.1+ devices, an altered unread widget, and a whole bucket-load of nitpicky features that may or may not make your day, depending on how anal you are about how you like your email.

Update 6/29/13: The original price for these was $539.99, but it's since been dropped to $499.99.

The Galaxy S4 Mini isn't as powerful as the original S4, its screen isn't as nice, nor is it as easy to find. That said, an unlocked version of Galaxy S4 Mini is available today-only on eBay for $499.99. It's not that much cheaper than the full-sized version, but that may not matter for people with smaller hands or tighter pockets.

We've seen Android running on a lot of things lately (outside of phones and tablets, that is) – ovens, game consoles, and a lot more. With people wanting more and more out of their TV, we've also seen an influx of devices that aim to turn that boring old HDTV of yours into a "smart" TV. But Sceptre is doing something a little different – it released a soundbar that runs Android and turns your TV into something more intelligent than it currently is.

Cross-platform specialist Bluestacks has already thrown its hat into the Android mini-console ring with GamePop, currently in the pre-order stage. Today the company announced a second option, the GamePop Mini, which will use the same subscription model as the "full-sized" console but come with free hardware, along with a 12-month contract. Specifications for the GamePop Mini have not been released, but it will be less powerful and have cosmetic variations from the standard model.

Rumors and hints at Google's next release of Android have been spilling out for months, but today we've got some evidence that Android 4.3 may be real and nearing completion. SamMobile got their hands on what's purported to be a pre-release build of the upcoming version of Jelly Bean (yes, it's still Jelly Bean), apparently intended for the brand-new Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, which hasn't even started shipping itself. The ROM was swiftly ported to the generic LTE version of the Galaxy S4 (GT-i9505) that currently serves as the de facto standard for US carriers.

I've known my wife for five years now, and I still struggle to remember her phone number. The only numbers I know are those I can recall from before getting my first mobile phone, and since I have lost touch with nearly everyone from back then, that has largely been reduced down to immediate family members. For everyone else, there's a People app, and all I've had to do to dial them is start typing their name.
