That's quite a steal for a 7" IPS display, complete with the NOOK's signature carabineer hook thing. The NOOK Color has been renowned for its hackability, particularly because you can get it to run CyanogenMod 7 pretty easily.

With Ice Cream Sandwich on the horizon, we at AP thought it would be a good idea to give you a roundup of what Google's been cooking up in Building 44. We actually know a good deal about the future of Android; I'm talking real, solid facts. These are features Android engineers have demoed or talked about, and acquisitions Google has made related to Android technology. We even have pretty clear timelines for most of them.

The HP TouchPad Android port has been a fascinating journey to follow. Last we spoke of the device, Team CM showed off multitouch and GPU acceleration; and, since then, great strides have been made in the way of the port. Basically everything works as it should now, including Wi-Fi, sound, the accelerometer, 3D games, and video acceleration.

While everything appears to be running smoothly, Team CM reminds us that this is still a closed alpha build and it's not quite ready for the masses, as "things still aren't as reliable as [they'd] like."

For more information on the status of the project, check out this thread over at RootzWiki.

OK, DROID BIONIC owners - I think it's finally safe-ish (well, as safe as it can be for the moment) to start tinkering with your phone a little. There's enough information out there now to reliably root, backup, and de-bloat your phone - with the ability to unbrick if you screw something up.

Since HP made its decision to -ahem- streamline their inventory of Touchpads via fire sale, Android users have been clamoring for the ability to run Google's mobile OS on the inexpensive (yet powerful) tablet.

This, of course, led to fierce competition between developers to be the first to get Android running on the Touchpad. The competition really heated up after Hack N Mod offered a bounty to the first developers able to get Android working on HP's previously doomed device.

The unstoppable GO dev team keeps pumping out amazingly polished products seemingly almost every week - they've already won me over on the launcher side with the GO Launcher EX (and its gorgeous Calendar widget), and yesterday they've added Switch GOWidget to their arsenal.

This toggle widget is compact and only occupies one row on the homescreen, showing 4 primary toggles you've configured, but with a single press of the "..." button, it opens up a full page's worth of other toggles along with the phone and media volume sliders.

As promised yesterday, the Swype team have released an update to the beta version of their keyboard that brings all of the same features as the recent NS4G-exclusive version, including gestures, personal dictionary, and a new feature called Swype Connect.

Swype Connect is a lightweight background service that collects Swype-specific data and ensures the integrity and validity of the installation, while reporting usage details and device information back to Swype's servers.

MIUI, one of Android's most popular custom ROM flavors, has been limited to purely software for existing devices... until today. Made by a Chinese company Xiaomi which has been in charge of MIUI's software development, the MIUI phone was just announced in China (where Xiaomi is based), and I must say - it's no hush puppy and leaves us highly impressed.

First and foremost, the MI-ONE, or Millet, sports a whopping 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8260 Scorpion CPU (from the 3rd generation Snapdragon family).

I'm curious to see what percentage of our readers who run custom ROMs are using AOSP (Android Open Source Project - something pretty close to vanilla Android, such as CyanogenMod), and what percentage are using something based on stock device ROMs. More specifically, I want to find out if people on certain manufacturers are more likely to go AOSP than others - in other words, is Blur/NinjaBlur pushing more people to AOSP than TouchWiz, or is there no difference?

Gaming on Android devices has come a long way in the past several months, but it can be quite difficult to adapt to touch-screen-only gaming. During intense games, I tend to be pretty heavy-handed, which makes me a bit nervous when the my controller is also the screen, so I would love to have a way to enjoy games on my phone or tablet without destroying the display. Fortunately, Dancing Pixel Studios created an app that allows you to use a Playstation3 six axis controller over Bluetooth.
