For better or worse, Amazon dominates the e-book lanscape. After buying Audible, it commands audiobooks as well. In 2011, the retailer introduced a way to attract readers with content from magazines and periodicals. Alongside digital magazine subscriptions, the company began selling articles and other long-form content between 5,000 and 30,000 words.
Amazon called these stories and essays Kindle Singles. Now it's expanding on the category with timeless well-known stories. Read More
Motorola has had a strange couple of years. It was making some interesting, though mediocre phones, then it was acquired by Google. Then, it started making great phones. Before we could truly enjoy the new Motorola, the company was sold off to Chinese mega-firm Lenovo. We all worried what this would mean for Motorola, and now we're seeing the first products from the new-new Moto—the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. Read More
The ZTE Axon 7 was announced to much "fanfare" at the end of May with famous pianist Lang Lang endorsement, BMW Designworks input, and Dolby Atmos surround sound. Sure, that's a lot of talk that means next to nothing to most of us, so I'll switch to a language we all understand: Snapdragon 820, 5.5" QHD display, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, USB-C, 20MP rear camera, and 3250mAh battery. Better? Alright.
The phone went up for pre-order last week for $400, an arguably nice price for what you're getting. But what if I told you that you could get it for more than $100 less at B&H? Read More
10 cents can go a long way these days on the Play Store. In recent times, you've been able to grab some cool games and apps for this sum — maybe a bit more or a bit less depending on your country — but the discounts have been heavily skewing toward select regions: UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Russia, and sometimes the US and Canada and a few other countries joined in on the fun.
This deal though seems to be better in every way. One, it appears to be worldwide: I've checked dozens of countries around the world and they're all showing the game as discounted. Read More
Most of the intrepid users who tried the most recent Android N developer preview were none too pleased with the new notification toggle behavior. Google changed the WiFi and Bluetooth buttons from simple toggles to connection list triggers. After more than 1,500 issue tracker stars in just a few days, Google has relented. Read More
LG has already released a couple of "Friends" with its G5, with mitigated usability and user response. Having tried four of them, I can assure you that my absolute favorite is the LG 360 Cam, not only because of its super cool and "immersion" feel, but also because of its relative independence from the G5 and the fact that it works with different Android and iOS devices.
This seems to be the case for this newly announced "Friend" too. The LG Action Cam LTE is a standalone rugged action camera with IP-67 water, dust, and sand-resistance (up to 1m of water for up to 30mins), as well as WiFi and LTE connectivity to live stream to YouTube Live. Read More
You don't get much more British than the BBC. It's like a cup of tea or chocolate digestive biscuits. Presumably because the BBC has realised it is losing market share to other news websites and TV services like Netflix or Amazon Prime, it has released a new app, BBC+, in an attempt to combat this. Provided the user has a BBC iD, they can pick what they're interested in and then see in a magazine-like format.
The idea isn't exactly new - many other news outlets in other countries around the world do the same. The main issue with BBC+ is that once you get to a new article, it is essentially just a WebView to the BBC website, unlike an app such as Flipboard or Google Play Newsstand, where the article is specifically formatted for display on a mobile device. While it may not be known in the US, Deezer is a very popular music service that has amassed plenty of fans worldwide. The French company offers a huge catalogue of songs, over 40M to be accurate, which puts it ahead of Spotify, Google Play Music, and Apple Music, and includes international releases as well as local music from different parts of the world. Its real tour de force though: quasi-worldwide presence. Deezer has been available in more than 180 countries since 2013, but there was one missing in the list: the USA.
To be accurate, Deezer has been accessible in the US before, but only through Cricket Wireless or on Sonos and Bose speakers. Read More

Android 7.0 Nougat developer preview will now show an application's install source in the app info interface. The new list item comes at the bottom, under the subheader "Store." This field is populated by a string obtained through getInstallerPackageName method, previously only accessible via a manual query. This string can be filled by a third party app store (such as Amazon, whose Appstore currently does this), or left blank in the case of an application that has been sideloaded.
As you can see in the hero image above, the Pokemon GO APK I sideloaded shows as having been installed by the package installer. Read More
