Can you believe the holiday shopping season is almost upon us, pressing down with the weight of a thousand suns and squeezing the last bit of cash out of your bank account? Black Friday deals can be a little misleading – not everything is actually a deal anymore. The new SlickDeals Black Friday app is now in the Play Store to help you save some cash later this month. If that's not enough, FatWallet dropped its Black Friday app in the store a few weeks ago.
Looking to save a few bucks by using VoIP apps instead of voice minutes? I hear you. It's not exactly difficult to find a plan offering unlimited talk, but with a new Sprint MVNO popping up every couple of weeks and such affordable deals as T-Mobile's $30 5GB prepaid plan still lingering around, it's worth taking a look at cheaper options. Viber's latest update has rolled out, doing its part to make transitioning to VoIP all the more attractive.
Dayframe from Cloud.TV was just released as a beta app last week, and today it has hit version 1.0. This is an app that turns your Android device into a digital photo frame with a ton of options. The new update also includes something that will make upcoming KitKat-powered tablets much better as photo frames – immersive mode.
This app pulls in images from online services like 500px, Instagram, and Flickr, but also grabs your photos from local storage and online social accounts.
Sometimes a smartphone comes with a crappy camera. Other times, it just comes with crappy software. The good thing is that there are no shortage of compelling camera apps to choose to from, and today, there's one more. SmugMug's Camera Awesome has made its way over to Android after amassing over 20 million downloads on the Apple App Store and averaging a near perfect 4.5 star rating.
Camera Awesome is packed with features, offering users an HDR mode, the ability to take panorama shots, and a high-speed burst.
It seems like if you're willing to strap a computer to your face, you should at least be able to listen to music with it. However, that isn't an option with Google Glass, but it will be in just a few short weeks. Google has announced that Glass Explorers will soon have the option to stream tunes from Google Play Music on Glass. There will also be new Glass stereo earbuds available for a proper listening experience.
Back in mid-September, NVIDIA announced a new platform called Tegra Note that aimed to not only bring $200 Tegra 4 slates to the market, but excellent stylus support using NVIDIA's DirectStylus technology, a "groundbreaking" camera experience, and superb audio as well. That's a tall order in a $200 device, but NVIDIA has proven that when it sets out to achieve a goal, it's generally successful at delivering on the promises made.
Anyone looking to snag a portable Bluetooth speaker might want to head over to Tech.Woot, as the site is currently selling a refurbished Braven 570 portable Bluetooth speaker for $29.99. Sure, it's a used product, but considering that this device would normally set you back just shy of $100 (even on Amazon), today's deal lets you get the same speaker for one-third of the price.
Tech.Woot's offer will only last for thirteen hours or until all of the units are sold, and there's a limit of three per customer.
Google's long, slow journey towards bringing Play Store media to all corners of the globe has advanced another step today: the Movies section has opened up to Android and web users in Italy. Italian readers can check the Play Store on their phone, tablet, or PC to see what's available for rent or purchase. At present it looks like most of the major American studios are on board for the new territory.

Butterscotch Shenanigans makes some pretty neat games with tight gameplay and alarmingly hilarious graphics. The great art is the work of one half of Butterscotch, Sam Coster. The guys at Butterscotch posted some not great news today, the gist of which is that Sam has a bit of the cancer. They pinged us to say it was cool to tell you all about this for one very important reason – things are going to slow down a bit with regard to game development, so they're doing the community a solid by making Towelfight 2 free-to-play.
