Samsung's Phonecast VR app will let you stream video content on your Gear VR [APK Download]

Many people assume VR is only really for movies and games that make the most of its 3D capabilities, but it can also be used to watch standard video content. Why would you choose to watch a movie on your TV when you can instead use a 200-inch virtual screen with a scenic 360-degree background? That's exactly what Samsung's upcoming Phonecast VR app will let you do.

Renders of the upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL confirm small bezels, camera bump, and no 3.5mm jack

OnLeaks is at it again. After revealing renders of the LG V30 a couple of weeks ago, the leakster has collaborated with MySmartPrice one more time to publish 3D renders of the most anticipated phone of this fall. No, not the Note 8, silly. Not the iPhone 8 either. We're on Android Police, dammit, it's the Pixel 2! Or at least that's the name the device is being called, though no one is 100% sure of the name yet.

We already know a little about the Pixel 2 and its bigger brother, the Pixel 2 XL. In June, we heard some rumored specs like the two devices' screen sizes (4.95" and 5.99", respectively), 4GB RAM, 64GB and 128GB storage, stereo speakers, and lack of 3.5mm headphone jack.

USB 3.2 spec announced with double the speed for existing Type-C SuperSpeed cables

The USB Promoter Group has just announced the USB 3.2 spec update with one major change over USB 3.1: multi-lane operation on hosts and devices and thus double the bandwidth on existing SuperSpeed Type-C cables.

With USB 3.1, both hosts and devices were designed for single-lane use. The SuperSpeed cables, however, were designed with multi-lane in mind, but weren't able to make use of it because the devices they connected to on both ends didn't support it. Thanks to USB 3.2, upcoming certified hosts and devices will support multi-lane operation so existing cables can benefit from double the speed when connected to them.

Google introduces a beta program for Cast for Android TV

The Google Cast Receiver app is necessary if you want to cast to your Android TV as if it were a Chromecast. Unfortunately, it's had pretty poor reviews since its release and it's about time Google did something about it. In a bid to improve the experience for developers working with the Google Cast SDK, and in turn make the app less buggy, the company is opening up a beta program that will offer early access to the latest features.

BlackBerry's WorkLife Persona app makes it easier to use your own device for work [APK Download]

Many businesses have to offer their staff work phones so they can get stuff done. This often leads to carrying two phones around, which can be a bit of a pain. One way of solving that issue, as well as being slightly less wasteful, is to introduce a BYOD scheme (bring your own device). This is theoretically possible with an Android device out-of-the-box, as you can have different user profiles. Some Android phones are also dual SIM, so you can use two different numbers. Switching between profiles is often slow and inconvenient, however. A new app from BlackBerry aims to improve on this.

Verizon Galaxy S8 and S8+ updated with new navigation bar features and Daydream support (but not really)

Earlier this month, T-Mobile Galaxy S8s received an update that reportedly enabled Daydream, but Daydream was (and still is) incompatible. T-Mobile later updated its changelog to reflect this. However, Verizon hasn't learned from Team Magenta's mistake and is reporting Daydream support in their new update's changelog as well. But things you do get include an updated navigation bar (for better or for worse), as well as the ability to send GIFs during phone calls.
