Every once in a while, we have one of those moments in our lives when we try something for the first time, and we think to ourselves "I'm going to remember this moment - the moment when I discovered this thing." Be it food, some sort of gadget, a television show, or a musical artist, it's the kind of thing that sticks with you, at least for a while.

And when it comes to smartphones, there haven't been too many devices that really gave me that feeling. The iPhone - for just changing the shape of the industry. The Nexus One, as the first Android "superphone," and my personal introduction to the OS.

What We Use: The Apps, Tools, Devices, And Other Stuff Liam Can't Do Without

With another week comes another entry in our new "What We Use" series. This time it's my turn. I may not have an eternal turtle or a crazy-sophisticated head razor, but the fourth time's a charm, right? Here's a rundown of the hardware, software, and miscellaneous whatnots that help me do what I do.

The Hardware

My Laptop

Unlike my colleagues, I rely primarily on my laptop. Having found myself either in class or overseas during the past four years, re-upping my old desktop build was neither cost-effective nor practical, so I opted for a beefy laptop solution. Currently I'm running a Sony Vaio S with 8GB RAM, an Intel i5-2439M at 2.4GHz, and a 15.5" 1920x1080 screen.

Editorial: Did HTC Drop The Ball With The One X+?

Even as the proud owner of an HTC One X, sometimes I find it difficult to defend the company whose handsets I really do love. The One X is a truly gorgeous piece of hardware - a unique and interesting design among a sea of relatively similar (or extremely boring) shiny plastic rectangles. It's the first Android phone design I've looked at and thought to myself, "Wow, that's really inspired." Call me a fanboy if you must, but I really do love the look of this phone. I have since I reviewed it, and I still love it now.

As such, you can guess that I love the look of the One X+.

AT&T Will Get The HTC One X+ Exclusively In The US, Also Adding The One VX To Its Roster

Well, the long-awaited (and rumored) HTC One X+ is official. HTC took the wraps off this not-so-secret handset earlier this morning, stating that it would be available in several different regions. Now, AT&T has announced that it will be the exclusive carrier of the device here in the US, and it will hit stores "in the coming months."

For those who may not have caught the news this morning, the One X+ is essentially the same as its predecessor on the outside, but is an entirely different beast on the inside:

4.7" 1280x720 display
1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor
1GB RAM
64GB internal storage
8MP rear shooter, 1.6MP front camera
LTE
2100mAh battery
Android 4.1 with Sense 4+

Also announced by AT&T today is the HTC One VX, a nice mid-range smartphone with decent specs:

4.5" qHD Super LCD2
1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4
1GB RAM
8GB storage, microSD card slot
5MP rear shooter, VGA front camera
Android 4.0 (will be upgraded to 4.1 "shortly after launch")

Much like the One X+, there's no certain date when the VX will be released.

HTC One X+ For T-Mobile Shows Up On Blurrycam, But Is It Just Giving False Hope?

The now-infamous @evleaks has leaked yet another upcoming smartphone today, this time a T-Mobile-branded version of what is dubbed the HTC "One X+." This phone has been rumored for some time, and even shown up in some Incredible-esque regalia, adding to the rumor that it's headed for Verizon.

This phone, though, looks exactly like a standard One X, and without any sort of scale, you probably can't tell the difference.

Don't get too excited, though, because this phone may never come to pass.

According to TmoNews, there is ample internal confusion at T-Mobile as to whether the One X+ will actually be released.

One with a 4" display, front and rear cameras, a microSD card slot, and a 1GHz processor. For half the price of the original Motorola Pebl (that thing cost $300 back in the day).

Oh, how far we've come.

But do you want a $150 smartphone? I mean, that all depends. Do you conduct most of your "business" via the web? Push email can be a real lifesaver. Real-time Google Maps navigation will always get you to the right empty lot as quickly as possible, and Google Calendar reminders will make organizing your protection money collection schedule a breeze.

Marvel (Sort Of) Releases 'Avengers Initiative,' The First In A Series Of Avengers-Themed Gaming Content

It's difficult to put out a $1.5 billion movie and not expect a few major product tie-ins. Marvel, today, "released" (we'll get to that in a bit) a new game for Android called "Avengers Initiative." This $7 app stars the Hulk, as the green loose cannon battles some of his most notorious villains, including Wendigo, the Abomination, and even the infamous Skrulls. The game will only be available for select Android devices to start with.

Curiously, though, despite the game being available on the Play Store, it doesn't seem to be active. There is a list of devices that will be supported (including the HTC One X, Galaxy S III, Nexus 7, and many other flagship phones and tablets), however it can't actually be installed just yet.

Images Of An Unnamed HTC Device Surface - Could Be The Rumored 5" Mega-Smartphone Headed To Verizon

No, it's not an Evo. Don't let your eyes deceive you. What you're looking at are leaked pictures of an in-development HTC device. We don't know much about this one just yet. The phone lacks any carrier-specific branding, though the red accents are pretty typical of Verizon color schemes, such as the Droid Incredible.

The site that posted these photos originally, PhoneHK, makes mention of this being a 5" device. Combined with the Verizon-ish color scheme, one might be tempted to believe that this is an early look at the Note-like device we've heard about previously. That HTC phone was rumored to have a full 1080p display, with a quad-core Krait-based S4.
