Finally! The long awaited Gingerbread update for both the Droid Incredible and ThunderBolt will be hitting the airwaves in September, according to HTC's official Twitter.
While several leaked Android 2.3.x builds for each device have surfaced over the past few months, none of them were deemed good enough to achieve "official" status, so it's good to know that HTC has finally put the finishing touches on each.
No solid date has been set, so just know that your waiting will finally come to an end within the next few weeks. Read More
We've been talking about Gingerbread for the Droid Incredible and its on-again-off-again status quite a bit lately, but after the official support docs showed up on VZW's site, we had confirmation of what we knew all along: the update is alive and kicking. It was rumored that it would start rolling out OTA-style earlier in the week but was delayed for unknown reasons, leaving Incredible owners without their cookie-filled upgrade just a little bit longer. Last week, an HTC support representative told a customer that the Droid Incredible would not be updated to Gingerbread. Of course, we questioned this claim's validity, as we were absolutely certain that there was a test build on Verizon's servers at the time the statement was issued.
Turns out we were right, as the official update page is now live on Big Red's website. This is pretty good news for Incredible owners -- but the better news is that it's probably coming sooner than you think; possibly as early as this week. Read More
A little more than two weeks ago a revolutionary (pun intended) new unlock and root solution was released by AlphaRev and Unrevoked that provided S-Off and NAND write access to a number of HTC devices. That tool received an update today that adds a number of previously unsupported device to the mix:
- HTC EVO 3D GSM
- HTC Thunderbolt
- HTC EVO 4G running Gingbebread
- HTC myTouch 4G Slide
- HTC Droid Incredible 2 running Gingerbread
- Fixed support for HTC myTouch 4G Slide (doubleshot) 1.44.0007
- Fixed support for HTC Incredible 2 (vivo_w) 0.97.0000, only works on Gingerbread now!
Droid Incredible owners, brace yourselves for some potentially bad news -- ready? After months of waiting, it looks like HTC may have scrapped its plans to bring Gingerbread to the Droid Incredible, according to a support rep.

While the official Gingerbread OTA for the Incredible 2 started rolling out a couple of days ago, there are some users running a previously leaked version of 2.3 that are left out in the cold with no way of updating - until now, that is. Thanks to an anonymous tipster calling himself Pig Benis, we've gotten a hold of the official RUU from Verizon with the build number 2.18.605.4 (the same as the OTA) for your flashing pleasure. Yesterday, a signed Gingerbread RUU was leaked for the HTC Incredible 2 by MobileUnderground member Football. xgunther and I over at the AndIRC Incredible 2 chat repacked it and made it root-friendly.
Right now, you have to be one of the lucky few to be set S-OFF and rooted by AlphaRevX and running ClockworkMod recovery in order to flash the pre-rooted ROM. For those who are not that lucky (yet), enjoy the pictures and videos while we all wait for AlphaRevX to release the full unlock for the Incredible 2. Read More
If you've been considering the Droid Incredible 2 as your next phone, now is probably the best time to make the leap, as Wirefly has a pretty unbelievable deal going on: you can score this next-gen Droid for a mere $2 with a new two-year agreement (of course). If you're already a Verizon customer lookin' to grab this phone as an upgrade, it will still only set you back $50 (it's currently $200 at VZW). Read More
