Mark Your Calendars: Motorola, Verizon, Google, And Adobe Set To "Unleash The Next Generation Of Droid" On June 23rd - Is Froyo Also Joining The Party?

In exactly a week, on June 23rd, the 4 giants of the Android world - Motorola, Verizon, Google, and Adobe are set to announce something really great, dubbed "the next generation of Droid" at a special invitation-only press event in New York.

We can only guess what the event will touch on - surely, Droid X and Droid 2 are at the top of the list.

However, noting the presence of Adobe, it makes us wonder whether something much-much bigger is coming, i.e.

SysAdmin Series, Article #5: FTP Clients

First off, my apologies for the late posting in the SysAdmin series (or very early since tomorrow is Thursday). I had to deal with a double HDD failure on my home PC this weekend which ate up 14+ waking hours between Saturday night and all day Sunday, which would have been my prime writing time. Then the third HDD in that system crashed Monday evening, egad, what are the odds. I digress…

I've been looking for an easy way recently to manage configuration files for remote servers without having to deal with subversion, and even looked at some sort of file sync with Evernote/Dropbox via Android using an FTP client, but neither Evernote or Dropbox give you easy access to files on your SD storage when you download files.

The Bad News: Swype Beta Expired Today. The Good News: Swype Will Be Re-Released Today, June 16th, This Time To Everyone

Swype, an alternative Android keyboard, that pretty much turned the whole texting industry upside down a couple of months ago when it debuted, is coming to all Android handsets, regardless of the manufacturer, today, June 16th (hey, that's a nice birthday present for me!).

Previously, you could only get your paws on Swype if you acquired one of very few handsets that came with it preinstalled, downloaded it as part of a limited beta, or mooched a leaked version online.

HTC Aria Coming June 20th To AT&T, Initial Hands-On Impressions Surface

Good news, AT&T customers – starting June 20, AT&T will begin selling its first HTC Android device, the Aria. A few days ago, they (accidently?) released a video showing the HTC “Liberty” being tested. At the time, we speculated that it might actually be the HTC Aria we’d heard about before. Turns out we were probably correct, as various news outlets have been receiving the Aria to play around with, and they look to be one and the same.

Galaxy S Pro Confirmed - Coming To Sprint, Will Sport 4G And A 5-Row Keyboard

Galaxy S, a long-awaited Super AMOLED beauty from Samsung, will not be feeling lonely this summer, as Galaxy S Pro - its keyboard bearing sibling - will be joining Sprint's ranks as well.

The phone will have a 5-row spacious physical QWERTY keyboard, which has a refreshing row dedicated to numbers. Compare it to Motorola Droid's keyboard pictured below to see the obvious differences. We approve.

Additionally, as evident from the photos so gracefully flipped and watermarked by AndroidCommunity, Galaxy S Pro will support 4G, finally giving the recently launched EVO 4G someone to hang out with.

Achievement Unlocked! EVO 4G Now Fully Rooted, NAND Protection Defeated, Full Write Permissions To /system. Incredible Next?

Problems Gaining Root On The EVO

If you've been following the EVO 4G root progress, you would know that the current root status is incomplete:

  • the unrevoked method allows granting root to apps but doesn't allow writing to the /system partition, which means you can't remove applications added by Sprint and do any kind of useful hackery, such as installing custom recoveries or ROMs
  • toastcfh's original method (now known as Part 1), which grants write access to /system but only in recovery mode, which means you need to reboot your phone into a special recovery console to gain those write permissions.

Yet Another Droid X Leak, This Time With Sexy High-Res Pictures

This is certainly one of the worst kept mobile secrets in a while. It seems we can barely go more than a few days without more Droid X/Xtreme/Shadow or Droid 2 pictures leaking. In this case, it seems Mr. Blurrcam is on vacation and let his high resolution counterpart take a few more pictures of the Droid X.

There’s not a whole lot of new information at this point, but that’s to be expected considering the rate at which we’ve been seeing leaks.
