Last week, I listed the EVO Shift 4G in my roundup of the best Android phones under $50, but that was when it was priced at $40 on AmazonWireless. Wirefly has now gone and beaten that price silly, offering the QWERTY-keyboard slider phone for the low, low price of "free" if you open a new Sprint account, or add a new line to your existing plan.
The EVO Shift 4G does have a tiny 3.6" display, but it's also packing a next-gen single core Snapdragon processor and a big 1530mAh battery - along with a fresh update to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Read More
Complaints about HTC's Sense UI becoming increasingly bloated are nothing new, but there's no denying that the skin has its upsides - and Reddit user TheEntireUniverse just unearthed another such boon. Behold, the preview image for Sense 3.0's "Friend Stream" widget:
For those not familiar with the reference, Jill Valentine is one of the main characters in the popular Resident Evil franchise, and the Nemesis-destroys-a-helicopter story was taken right out of the third game in the series. Read More
Ever since the beginning of June, we've been teased by and patiently waiting for the mysterious AlphaRevX unlocker page that promised to completely unlock (S-OFF) the latest HTC Wildfire and even Incredible S, making root, custom ROMs, ClockworkMod recovery all possible.
After a period of private beta testing, the wraps have come off an hour ago, and the first public release of AlphaRevX is now available for download (see instructions below) for the following devices:
- HTC Incredible S (Vivo), which remained completely undefeated until now
- HTC Desire CDMA (BravoC)
- HTC Desire GSM (Bravo)
- HTC Wildfire (Buzz)
- HTC Aria (Liberty)
Incredible 2 and Desire S are not supported at the moment, though I suspect they use a similar protection scheme and will also be cracked shortly. Read More
Update: The EVO Shift 4G will be getting this OTA on the 17th if you initiate the update check manually, and by June 20th, it should start rolling out to all devices automatically! So be on the lookout for it on Friday.
You thought we couldn't pack any more EVO exclusives in today? Well, you thought wrong! We've learned from our intrepid tipster, Captain Anonymous, another interesting tidbit this afternoon: EVO Shift 4G Gingerbread update (version 2.76.651.4) - June 20th. Read More
It's been a long time since my opinions on a device have been so torn. On the one hand, the Revolution is a pretty impressive piece of hardware, but on the other, there are some seriously annoying things about it (specifically some software elements - the lock screen makes me want to assault something adorable). All the handset's different aspects ultimately lead to one conclusion: MEH.
I can honestly say that this is the closest to not having an opinion I've ever come in regards to a device. Read More
It looks like HTC is on top of its game when it comes to accessories for upcoming devices: the dock for the HTC EVO 3D showed up in coming-soon-status at BestBuy.com last night, and now an ever-so-sexy dock for the Flyer has made an appearance there, as well.
It offers everything that you would expect from a dock: it keeps your device charged, makes turning your $500 piece of hardware into a $20 alarm clock a snap, and supports the MHL adapter via its rear port, so you can easily stream videos (or anything else you may want to stream) to your HDTV - all while looking good doing it. A few weeks ago, the Android community notched another victory: HTC formally announced it would no longer be locking its bootloaders, though they hadn't really worked out all the details yet. Add another device to the "it won't be locked, we just don't know how or when" list: the HTC Sensation.
Ah, yes, the infamous alot. ಠ_ಠ
The important bit of that wall of text:
We are currently developing new bootloader unlocked software for [the Sensation].
If you've been considering the Droid Incredible 2 as your next phone, now is probably the best time to make the leap, as Wirefly has a pretty unbelievable deal going on: you can score this next-gen Droid for a mere $2 with a new two-year agreement (of course). If you're already a Verizon customer lookin' to grab this phone as an upgrade, it will still only set you back $50 (it's currently $200 at VZW). Read More
On paper, the OnLive game system seems like a revolution in gaming: instead of using your own console or hardware to play games, OnLive's servers sync and render gamplay on their own servers and stream it back to you in 720p. This would theoretically allow you to play any game you wanted at high settings, regardless of your available hardware.

OnLive's taken the chance to expand from an initial PC experience to include their own microconsole; however, it looks like they're expanding to the Android tablet market, as well. Read More

Update 2: Here's a direct download link from our own (fast) mirror for the EVO 4G Official Gingerbread OTA.
To flash it, follow these instructions:
- Download the OTA
- Rename the file "update.zip" (the actual file suffix needs to be .zip, make sure .zip isn't just in the name [eg, not update.zip.zip])
- Place the file on the root of your SD card (the main directory you see when you mount your EVO as a disk drive)
- Reboot into recovery (power off, then hold volume down when you hit then power button to power back on)
- Select recovery from the menu with the power button, then, when the sign with the exclamation point appears, press Power+Volume Up at the same time, and wait (up to 30 seconds).
