Yesterday, Otterbox hooked us up with the chance to give three readers any case they want for their phone. Today, we have three more cases to give away-- but this go around, it's a bit more specific.

The Goods

Today, we have the Commuter Series Strength Case for the EVO 3D (see our review) to give away to three lucky readers. If you haven't heard about this case, here's the skinny: it was made specifically to support Breast Cancer Awareness. For every case purchased, ten percent of the price is donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade -- so even if you don't win, you can always buy one to support the cause.

Who likes free stuff? You? Great, because we have some to give away (don't we always?)! Up for grabs today are three cases, courtesy of the awesome guys over at Otterbox. We all know and love Otterbox cases for the rugged, durable protection they provide our devices, but here's a quick look at each series of case.

Impact Series

Durable, simple, and stylish, the Impact Series is made of a molded silicon designed to protect your device from scratches, drops, dings, and other minor injury. It probably won't help if you toss your phone out of a helicopter, but how often could that happen?

Skype for Android, an app that gets almost as much love as it does hate, was updated to version 2.5 a few minutes ago. Because the last update unofficially opened up Skype to all 2.2+ devices, this time around Skype simply listed 13 more devices as whitelisted and approved for video chat capabilities:

  1. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (T-Mobile)
  2. HTC SHOOTER (KDDI)
  3. Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman
  4. Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V
  5. Acer Iconia Tablet (A500)
  6. LG Optimus Black LANDSCAPE ONLY
  7. LG Optimus 3D LANDSCAPE ONLY
  8. LG Optimus 2x LANDSCAPE ONLY
  9. Motorola Photon
  10. Motorola Droid3 LANDSCAPE ONLY
  11. Motorola Bionic LANDSCAPE ONLY
  12. Motorola Xoom
  13. Motorola Atrix

Notice how the list contains 13 devices, even though the changelog says 14.

Welcome to the weekly roundup of the best new Android applications, games, and live wallpapers that went live in the Market or were spotted by us in the previous 3 weeks or so (as opposed to the usual 2 - sorry, my work schedule has been kicking my ass in the last 2 weeks).

This is PART 1 of the app roundup. You can find PART 2 here. The game roundup from this week can be found here and the tablet app roundup here.

Please wait for this page to load in full in order to see the AppBrain widgets, which include ratings and pricing info.

Sprint

It's a bittersweet feeling when one of the most revolutionary devices to hit the market ends up on a carrier's EOL (End of Life) list. While it's generally realized that the device itself is old hat, its retirement indicates that newer, better, and more powerful devices are upon us.

This is the case for one of Android's most celebrated success stories: the HTC EVO 4G. According an internal Sprint document obtained by SprintFeed, the white variant of the EVO 4G will meet its demise at the end of this week, while the black one will hang on for just a while longer -- at least until the first part of October.

Evil

When I switched from AT&T from Verizon and swapped my aging, battered, and bruised Nexus One for a DROID BIONIC, the possibility of buyer’s remorse was not on my mind. I was coming from AT&T - America’s single least reliable network in terms of dropped calls. So, I thought the last thing I’d end up doing was wishing I was back there. And now, at least part of me does.

If you own a Verizon 4G LTE handset, you’ve probably experienced an issue exactly or approximately like this one: You put your phone in your pocket or let it sit overnight, take it out some time later or the next morning, and there’s no data connection.

Last night, I sent out a message from our social accounts praising the Epic 4G Touch's boot times. They amazed me as soon as I turned this Galaxy S II Sprint variant for the first time last Friday and haven't ceased to amaze me ever since. I have loaded up all the same apps and then some compared to any of my other phones, and still - the Epic 4G Touch blazes by the competition like no other device I've seen.

I promised you guys a video comparing the boot times of E4GT with the EVO 4G. Sure, that didn't sound like a fair fight, but that wasn't my point - I wanted to show the current EVO 4G owners (and other year+ old devices) how far technology has advanced in that year+.

The Hulu Plus app for Android has just been updated to v1.0.139 and adds support for 9 new devices:

  • HTC Incredible 2
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • HTC Sensation
  • Motorola Droid 3
  • Motorola Bionic
  • Motorola X2
  • LG Revolution
  • LG G2x
  • HTC Flyer

The only other change that's listed is "Improved playback performance." A small update, but significant for the devices it adds.

Here's to hoping that they continue to add devices at a healthy clip!

What's in this version:

  1. Improved playback performance
  2. Added support for 8 additional handsets: HTC Incredible 2, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Sensation, Motorola Droid 3, Motorola Bionic, Motorola X2, LG Revolution, LG G2X
  3. Added support for 1 additional tablet: HTC Flyer

Let Android Be Android, part 2

Introduction

It's now been exactly a year (minus one day) since I published my very first editorial for Android Police, Let Android Be Android. A lot has changed since - dual-core CPUs are now table stakes for a high-end smartphone; Android has evolved from an exclusively mobile OS to a software powerhouse for phones and tablets alike; and we've been given several seminars on stretching the truth about the speed of a wireless network (yep, that would be the "4G" drama).

Sadly, one thing has remained almost entirely stagnant: the diminutive amount of vanilla Android devices on the market. In fact, it would be more than accurate to say that the skin situation has been exacerbated since my article on it last year.

It has been a while since we've talked about anything new for the Desire S, but thanks to the Revolutionary unlock tool, this handset is getting its first taste of CyanogenMod. Nightlies for the device went live last night, joining the dozens of other handsets that have been missing over the last several weeks.

So, if you're ready to show your Desire S some CM7 lovin', head over to this link to grab the download, and don't forget to grab Gapps while you're at it.
