Kodi (formerly the Xbox Media Center) isn't the only piece of software attempting to find a new image. One of the most popular Android remote control apps for the media manager, Yatse, is getting a major visual overhaul. Version 5.0, now available in a Google+ beta, is showing off a shiny new interface that takes more than a few pages out of the Material Design playbook. Check out some comparison shots below.

God games are particularly well-suited to mobile platforms, where the top-down interface lends itself well to touch controls, and the size of the screen - not to put too fine a point on it - helps with the deity fantasy. One of the more popular and unconventional latter entries in the genre is indie darling Godus from 22cans, published on the Play Store by DeNa. You can grab the free download now.

Since the recent update to MX Player, many users are running into a new problem: there's no sound in certain videos. It turns out the latest release of the popular video player removed support for two audio codecs: AC3 and MLP. Unfortunately, it seems this is a result of licensing issues, meaning MX Player will no longer ship with built-in support to play these audio formats. However, there is a simple workaround that will get things working again with relatively little hassle.

OK, so perhaps the latest version of the Galaxy Note tablet isn't impressing you, thanks to that overly large 12.2-inch screen. If you'd like a deal on something very similar but a little more manageable, B&H Photo has the 32GB version of the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (man, I'm glad they did away with that naming scheme) for $329. That's a whopping $270 off of the price of the 32GB model at launch last year, and still $170 off of Amazon's current price.

While owners of Nexus devices have been getting Android 5.0 updates all over the place for the last few weeks, Google Play Edition owners have had to wait a little longer. The first GPE device to get an over-the-air Lollipop update seems to be the LG G Pad 8.3 - or as it's affectionately known around here, the LGGP83GPE. Users on Twitter and XDA are reporting at least some OTA updates, and you can grab the ZIP file for a manual flash here (direct link).

There's been a bit of a kerfuffle with Cyanogen, Inc. today: conflicting interests in the Indian market mean that its relationship with OnePlus is probably over. But the development of the community-based ROM continues, and owners of the Verizon variant of the LG G3 can see for themselves tonight. The phone now has a nightly build of CyanogenMod 11 (Android 4.4) of its very own, and more are sure to follow soon.

Believe it or not, people do voluntarily enter into contracts with Verizon. That proposition is much more attractive today with the carrier's Black Friday deals. You can get $100 off all Android smartphones when purchased with a new contract, and a $150 bill credit for each line you move to Verizon.

As had been previously reported, the European Parliament has now taken a vote on and passed a non-binding resolution that, if it should become a regulatory act of the European Commission, would seek to have Google's Search product broken up into a separate company. The motivation behind the resolution, according to the European Parliament's statement, is in "ensuring competitive conditions within the digital single market."

What's a digital single market? It is essentially the EU's attempt to regulate how businesses and governments alike should behave on the web, particularly in regards to competition, net neutrality, and privacy.

Update: OnePlus claims the Indian version of the OnePlus One will ship with CyanogenMod. However, OnePlus plans to eventually shift as many Indian OPO owners as possible to the company's own Android ROM early next year, though the OPO will continue to receive worldwide support from CyanogenMod for the time being.

Update 2: Cyanogen Inc. has clarified how updates will work. If a device is shipped with CM, it gets updates even if it's sold in India.

Plume is one of the more long-standing "power user" options for Twitter on Android, thanks to a ton of built-in features, a customizable scrolling widget, and solid notification support. It's also one of the better apps in terms of visuals, even before the latest update. But the new beta available on Plume's Google+ community brings the app into the Android 5.0 era with some noticeable changes to the app's visual layout.
