HTC Desire
Last Updated: April 2nd, 2011

Yesterday, we reported on an exciting announcement for all HTC Desire owners - @PaulOBrien managed to root the device and promised detailed instructions to be posted today.

Well, he's backed the promise up with action and as of this morning, full instructions have been posted.

Paul notes that HTC made it much harder to access key partitions and write any data to them, compared to, say, the Nexus One. This made the process of rooting extremely complicated and left it a quite crippled (he's still working on uncrippling it).

The current set of instructions (29/Apr r3) is below - get ready to do some reading:

Read this whole topic - it contains a ton of useful information as well as the instructions and downloads!

HTC Desire rooted

HTC Desire

HTC Desire didn't last long - it was rooted (see here for an explanation and benefits of having your Android phone rooted) today by @PaulOBrien, the founder of MoDaCo.com - a forum dedicated to rooting and customizing mobile devices, similar to xda-developers.com.

Paul, who had claimed he was confident he could root the Desire earlier this month, was away for about 2 weeks. His return today was accompanied by the following photo, clearly showing a program called Superuser Permissions present on his Desire:

While the root method is currently not yet available, Paul promised to post it by tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28th.

nexus droid

If you were waiting for the Nexus One to hit Verizon anytime soon, the bad news is that you can wave goodbye to that ever happening as Google updated their phone sales website today, and the Verizon Nexus One is officially off the list.

The good news, however, is that instead of the N1, Google recommends you buy the Droid Incredible, calling it ‘a powerful Android phone and similarly feature-packed cousin of the Nexus One.’

Shortly after the changes were made to the site, the Boy Genius Report published a statement by Google that read

We won’t be selling a Nexus One with Verizon, and this is a reflection of the amazing innovation happening across the open Android ecosystem.

802.11N Nexus One

The other day I was reading a great roundup of projected and wanted features in the upcoming Android 2.2 Froyo release, over at AndroidAndMe. The author, Taylor Wimberly, was going over what he thought was likely to be included next and then mentioned something about the Nexus One that instantly intrigued me. He said:

I spoke with Google’s Eric Tseng during CES and he told me there were many secrets left in the Nexus One that we would discover later.

Could it be that Google has loaded Nexus One with unactivated, hidden features, making the crowd favorite device into Pandora's box?

HTC Droid Incredible

The date 4/20 is usually associated with things of mellow nature, and apparently some of Verizon’s employees or the shipping system itself seems to have been affected by it - a few lucky people who pre-ordered their HTC Incredibles got notices saying it would be delivered 4/20, and sure enough there are reports of these units being received.

What Is Going On?

It is a bit confusing as to what is actually happening right now in regards to the HTC Incredible. While some people put in their preorder and the actual release date is not until the 29th of April, they received order confirmations stating they would be receiving their new phones on either 4/20 or 4/21.

Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-X10_150

As the title states, it has just come to light that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will not be getting multitouch as was previously mentioned. In fact at first it was stated it would not be getting multitouch, then it was and now, yet again, it is not and that is the final word on it.

It seems that some companies are really having trouble relaying information these days.

Final Word On Multitouch

Sony Ericsson's Communications Manager Harold de Kort gives the final word about multitouch and the Xperia X10:

Multi-touch will not be a feature in future updates for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 because the device does not support multi-touch due to her software and hardware configuration.

The HTC Droid Incredible hasn't even come out yet but we've already seen plenty of videos of it in action.

This video shot at Wirefly.com's headquarters, however, shows a 14 minute walkthrough by a man by the name of Manny who knows how to showcase the phone best. Why? Because he actually works for HTC and tells the story the way HTC itself wanted you to hear it.

In the video, Manny doesn't just jump around all over the place but instead starts the way a completely new customer would - by logging in. He then goes over the features that clearly set Android, and the Incredible specifically, apart from the competition, like showing how your favorite contacts are automatically populated from Google contacts and easily changing the wallpaper to a live one.

HTC Droid Incredible

After a barrage of preorder news, a bunch of previews, and lots of excitement, we bring you two more videos showcasing HTC Droid Incredible's capabilities.

The first one, posted by Verizon's official Youtube account, is an official and professionally shot product review going into all aspects of the Incredible:

The second video, shot by Wirefly, shows what happens when you hook up the Incredible to the TV with the included TV-out port. Playing videos and slideshows on the big screen has never been easier with a mobile phone:

HTC Incredible reviews
Last Updated: October 11th, 2011

The Incredible review units have been arriving to some of the big sites in the past week, and the embargo is now off. Here I've assembled a collection of the best available review posts and videos, so that you can get the full Incredible experience before committing to a pre-order.

The general consensus is: it's an amazing device, better than anything available in the US right now (Motorola Droid, Nexus One, etc) and yes, you should go get it. And yes, we should stop calling it incredible (as an adjective) in every review, but no, everyone will be still doing it.
