Remember last night, when we were excited about the Galaxy S5 getting its Android 5.0 update already, at least in Poland? That was nice. Let's try to hang on to that warm, comforting feeling while we face this cold fact: a combination of lowered expectations for non-flagship devices and good old US carrier apathy means many Android owners won't be so lucky. For example, the Galaxy S4 Zoom on AT&T is just now getting its update to Android 4.4, more than a year after the release of both KitKat and the phone itself.

SNK's The King of Fighters series has been around since 1994, making this year the franchise's 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the company has re-released a copy of The King of Fighters 2012-A into the Play Store for free. For now, it sits alongside the paid version, released over a year ago, which still goes for $2.99.

This is an identical copy of the previous release, with both versions sporting the same screenshots on their Google Play pages and a matching file size of 1.1GB.

If you're a user of Samsung's WatchON service to get information on TV listings, movies, and the like, you may need to find a new app to satisfy that need. Samsung announced today that, on December 31, 2014, the company will shut down WatchON in all markets except the US and Korea.

December 31st, 2014, Samsung WatchON will discontinue full service in all markets, except the United States and Korea. We would like to assure customers that content previously purchased through Samsung WatchON will not be affected and will remain accessible through the relevant content provider’s application.

We've already covered the beta, but now AirDroid 3 is available as a completed release on the Play Store. The new app has an updated UI and a few new features, but the biggest change is the addition of stand-alone clients for Windows and OS X, besides the app's famous desktop browser management. You can grab the desktop apps from here.

The Windows and OS X versions of AirDroid let you do pretty much all of the things you could do in the browser, albeit without the "virtual desktop" interface: send and receive SMS, file transfers to your device, contact and call log access, and of course, notification mirroring for your laptop or desktop, including call alerts.

If the mention of "Poland only" in the title didn't deter you, you'd probably like to know that, hot on the heels of the LG G3's Poland-only Lollipop update, Samsung has decided to begin its Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 in that country as well. As for what's new, you obviously get all the new goodies that Google has included in the OS, as well as some fairly substantial visual changes to the look and feel of Touchwiz, including a material redesign of some core Samsung apps.

One of the cooler features of NVIDIA's SHIELD and SHIELD Tablet is their capability to remotely play PC games. And one of the more frustrating parts of this feature is that you must have both NIVIDIA's mobile hardware and a high-end NVIDIA graphics card on your gaming PC. A new game streaming app hopes to beat NVIDIA on both of those points. KinoConsole is a free download in the Play Store, and you can grab the server program for your desktop here.

We were begging Google to add SMS to Hangouts for so long, and now it seems like a case of be careful what you wish for. Well, at least there's the new Messenger app. This SMS alternative from Mountain View is getting an update today that makes it prettier, which is always nice.

It was only a few months ago that Google finally updated its long-neglected News and Weather app, sometimes called the Genie widget because of the package name. Today there's already a sizeable update for the app that brings a new dark theme, material animations, search, and more.
