By now, you must know a lot about the new LG Style and Sport watches and all that they can and can't do. What you don't know is a little added functionality that's just handy to have, even if it won't have that much impact on your daily use.
When booting up, the new LG watches show the time on top of the spinning and expanding colorful circles animation for Android Wear. The animation only lasts a few seconds and you probably don't reboot your watch often enough to care, or you're not impatient to need to know the exact time this very second without being able to wait until the watch has fully booted, but it's a nice touch. Is today is low-bandwidth and slow internet celebration day? Because after Google officially announced YouTube Go, the Youtube app for offline use and low bandwidth consumption, Facebook is following up with a bit of news from its Lite app.
Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg shared that Facebook Lite now has more than 200 Million users. The app was released in January of 2015 as a solution for users with less capable phones, less bandwidth, and slower internet connections. Even though Lite feels like nothing but a wrapper for the Facebook site, it has native Android notifications which you can still get with Chrome from the Facebook site, and more permission requests than you can shake a stick at, but on the upside, it weighs less than 2MB, works on 2G network speeds, and is compatible with devices going as far back as Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Xperia Z5 series (Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium) was on the list of devices that Sony promised to bring Android 7.0 Nougat to. After releasing the update to the more recent X Performance and XZ, then the X and X Compact, Sony is now ready to bring Nougat 7.0 to the Z5.
The OTA has started rolling out to some Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium users and will probably expand to the Z5 Compact soon. It's a large download at more than 1.2GB, and it should up your phone's software to version 32.3.A.0.372. Read More
When you're creating a Google Slides presentation, you can insert videos from YouTube, but what if the video you want to add isn't published there or you want to add a more personal movie? In the next few days, the option to add videos stored on your Google Drive will be rolling out to users.
Adding Drive videos will only be possible from the web version of Slides, but viewing them is available on both web and mobile. If you've shared your presentation, other users who don't have permission to view a video will have the option to request access.
After adding a video from Drive to your slide, right-click on it and go to Video Options to specify the time of the video you want playback to start and end at, enable autoplay during a presentation, and toggle audio on and off. Read More
Zen Studios is well-known for its pinball games of popular franchises, such as Portal, Marvel, The Walking Dead, and Star Wars. The company is back with another one entry to the series now, themed by game developer Bethesda titles.
The three franchises used here are The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout, and DOOM. I would compare the gameplay on these three pinball tables; however, because of the game's in-app purchases, I have only managed to play the Skyrim one. Which was fun - it reminded me of wasting away hours on the Windows XP pinball game. To play the Fallout or DOOM tables, you either have to pay real money for in-game coins, or earn money on the Skyrim table. Read More
The Galaxy S4, in its day, was a pretty capable smartphone. However, with its fourth birthday fast approaching, its update period has long since passed. No matter to T-Mobile, though; the company has just pushed the latest February 2017 security patches to it and the older Galaxy Tab 3... but they're still on Android 4.4 KitKat. Read More
Even with ever-improving mobile data coverage and an increasing number of WiFi hotspots, it's often still difficult to watch videos anywhere you'd like. This problem is especially prevalent in less-developed countries. Because of this, the YouTube team has created YouTube Go, an app that centers around saving videos to view later. Read More
If you're in the market for an Android Wear smartwatch, chances are you probably haven't even considered buying one by Fossil - their lineup is confusing, and their watches aren't particularly attention-worthy. However, anything can become purchase-worthy if the price goes low enough, and that may be what's happening here with the Q Founder. For a limited time, Fossil is offering this smartwatch for just $131 after a discount code - that's a massive $154 discount from the MSRP. Read More
In 1988, the FOX network in the US debuted a TV show called America's Most Wanted. It was a sensationalized and, to be honest, somewhat trashy dramatization of the crimes of some of the country's most violent fugitives, accompanied with their detailed descriptions and last known whereabouts. In between dimly-lit scenes recreating brutal murders and abductions, viewers were encouraged to call the show's hotline if they had any information. The call to action may have been a paper-thin veneer to justify the show's production... but it worked. In under a week one of the FBI's ten most wanted was arrested based on a viewer tip. Read More
