Perhaps you noticed that AT&T started selling the low-cost HTC Desire 610 late last month for just $0.99 on-contract and $200 without. That was apparently only the first step in HTC's attempted conquest on the mid-range device market in the US. The 610 is now on sale direct from HTC and the Desire 816 is launching on August 12th (tomorrow) on Virgin Mobile and direct from HTC.

CD slot mounts are a great way to breathe life into what is, for many of us, a neglected part of our car. Depending on your vehicle's layout, these accessories stick smartphones where they're easy to see and very accessible, both for the driver and a passenger. Today two of Mountek's CD slot mounts are available as Gold Box deals. The nGroove Universal grip CD slot mount is going for $15.99, while the nGroove Snap 2 magnetic car mount goes for $18.99.

It's been a few months since Google accidentally left the Stars bookmark management extension visible in the Chrome App Store. We had been hearing about the development of Stars for some time before that, so its appearance was not entirely surprising. However, Mountain View removed the listing and didn't mention Stars at I/O this year. Now Florian Kiersch has gotten a look at the updated version of Stars. It's clear Google is still making improvements to the service, but it's definitely not done yet.

The latest Dropbox update should give early adopters of the Android L preview something to smile about. This release addresses the showstopping compatibility issue that has thus far plagued the app, so users should now be able to use the cloud storage app on their pre-release mobile operating system of choice without experiencing an instant crash.

I've been using Runkeeper to track my cycling activity for the last eight months or so, and it has never really let me down. That said, I'm always on the lookout for new (or improved) ways to monitor my rides outside of my bike's cyclometer, so when Runtastic reached out to me about taking its new fitness tracking band Orbit for a spin, I was down for the challenge. I've had it for the last few weeks, and so far I think it's a good start.

The fashionably late July over-the-air update for the OnePlus One that bumps the handset up to Android 4.4.4 is beginning to roll out as of now and will continue through the end of the week (it's staged, with 10% rolling out first). In addition to new versions of Google apps, the update contains a cooler calibration for its screen and fixes that stop the phone from activating off-screen gestures while in your pocket.

Wires are totally for dopes, right? You're not a dope, are you? Of course not, but a lot of Bluetooth earbuds are rather spendy. That's why the current deal on MEElec Air-Fi Metro2 is of note. These earbuds usually go for $100, but they're on sale through StackSocial for $59.99.

The Sony Xperia Z2 is a water-resistant phone, and it may just be more humble than it puts on. One reportedly managed to survive for six weeks on a sea bed more than 10 meters deep. It didn't come out of the deal without a fair bit of damage, but the phone was still able to boot up and make calls.

GoogleSearch-Teardown

Last week, Google pushed out an update for Google Search, bringing the version number up to 3.6.13. While it added support for deep linking into apps and a few more of the bits to make hands-free operation a little more convenient, most people probably felt like they didn't get too much out of this update. As it turns out, we found one more addition that might interest a few more people.
