AT&T's Galaxy SII (i777) Gets Its First CyanogenMod 9 Nightly

The CyanogenMod team has done it again, bringing their CM9 build for AT&T's variant of the Samsung Galaxy SII to nightly status, and releasing the build to the CyanogenMod mirror network just yesterday.

The build actually released just before news that a seemingly official (and fully TouchWiz-ed) build of ICS had leaked for AT&T's SII, so SII owners have a couple of great options to satisfy their Ice Cream Sandwich cravings. We share most funny videos via our social accounts (you're following, right?), but once in a while a video comes along that is so beyond hilarious that it can no longer be the outcast doomed to bounce around social networks. It needs to be right here, on the front page. Such was the case with the best phone review on the Internet and such is the case with Mr. BPJ.

You see, Big Papa Joe loves Samsung. Specifically, he loves TouchWiz. Loves. BPJ is either a professional troll (if so, he needs get out on stage at a local comedy club) or is truly comical without even realizing it.

First CyanogenMod 7.2 Release Candidate "More Than Ready For Everybody To Enjoy"

In a post to the official CyanogenMod blog today, arcee announced that the first CM7.2 release candidate, based on Android 2.3.7, is ready to go for 70 devices. The entry also notes that 7.2 brings with it a few backported features and fixes from Android Ice Cream Sandwich, as well as a few completely new features. Those interested can see a complete change log here.

Since 7.2 is still in its release candidate stage, arcee notes that users are welcomed to report any bugs they encounter while running RC1:

Yesterday, a great thread titled Share One Awesome Tip or Trick You Do With Your Android Phone, I'll Start... popped up on Reddit, and thinking I would be already aware of all the little tricks, I almost ignored it. By the end of the day, seeing over 100 comments piqued my curiosity, so I checked it out.

To my dismay, among all the great tips, I found one, courtesy of kennansoft, that somehow evaded me all along - and it was available in my own stock Epic 4G Touch Galaxy S II ROM of all things.

The tip itself is very simple - if you turn off auto-brightness, you can just place your finger on the notification area (as you can see in red below) and swipe it left and right to control brightness.

Last week, the CyanogenMod team launched the first CM9 nightly builds for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Motorola XOOM. As of today, the following devices also have CM9 nightly builds available:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi and I/O Edition (download: p4wifi) - yay for the latter, as it seems Samsung completely abandoned it - I believe mine is still running 3.1 with no updates in sight.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 SGH-T859 on T-Mobile (download: p4tmo)
Samsung Galaxy S II (download: galaxys2) - I wouldn't try this on carrier-specific U.S. variants if I were you, wait for those to surface separately.

Unofficial Music API Close To Completion, Could Soon Allow Apps To Integrate With Google Music

A few days ago, we heard unofficial reports that Google was disappointed with the performance of Music thus far. While it's barely been out for a full quarter to date, there have been a few major factors holding the service back. In my opinion, one of the biggest factors holding it back thus far is the lack of an API - or, in English: third-party app support for the service. Luckily, a developer by the name of Simon Weber read the post about Google Music and got in touch a few days ago to let me know that he had a solution to the problem: an unofficial API he's been working on.

First Official CM9 Nightlies Now Available For Galaxy Nexus GSM/CDMA, Nexus S GSM/CDMA, And Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi/LTE

Just under a week after receiving almost unprecedented support from the Android community to fund the purchase of new build servers, the CM team has begun pumping out CM9 nightlies for a handful of devices. There's no question - the CM team is moving quickly, and the release of so many nightlies in such a short time span is exciting, to say the least.

Koushik Dutta, in a Google+ post earlier this evening, expressed appreciation, confirming that CyanogenMod "was able to purchase 3 top of the line, ridiculously geared, build servers," which will soon have an automatic build schedule. Dutta also indicated that CM7 nightly builds will be up and running again soon.

[Download] ClockworkMod Recovery Now Available For The Transformer Prime, CM9 Teased As Well

Well, that didn't take long. Not hours after ASUS released a tool to unlock the Transformer Prime's bootloader, we get word that ClockworkMod Recovery is available for the quad-core tablet. According to the source link, the team has been working on CWM for the Prime for a while but without an unlocked bootloader, they couldn't test it. Now that the device is wide open, it's time to get your custom recovery on.

As if that wasn't enough, though, the team behind the custom recovery is also teasing CyanogenMod 9 on the tablet. No downloads are available for this one, yet, but we get a nice two-minute demonstration of the tablet running the custom ROM.

[Updated] Watch: CyanogenMod 9 Gets A New Spiffy Boot Animation

The boot animation from CyanogenMod 7 still ranks somewhere towards the top of my personal list, but this new one, created by the same designer Cameron Behzadpour (73v1n) using Adobe After Effects, is definitely a step-up.

It builds on top of his previous effort and is quite possibly the best-looking boot animation I've seen on Android so far. And it's officially coming to CM9. Excellent work, Cameron!
