Tom's Guide Tested Fast Charging On 6 Different Smartphones: Asus Zenfone 2 Fastest To Start, Samsung Galaxy S6 Fastest To Finish

Fast charging is one of the most prevalent solutions nowadays to the problem of battery life in modern smartphones. Battery capacity hasn't changed a lot in recent times, yet we keep on demanding more and more out of our phones, so fast charging was introduced as a way to juice them up faster than usual. However, not all fast charging phones are created equal, whether it's in terms of technology, charger used, or battery capacity to fill up. To figure out the fastest charging phone(s), Tom's Guide set out to test 7 different smartphone models in a variety of situations.

The list has the Galaxy S6 (proprietary Samsung technology with its high-wattage charger), Asus Zenfone 2 (Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 based "Boostmaster technology"), LG G4 (Qualcomm QC 2.0), Motorola Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo (Qualcomm QC 2.0 branded as "Turbo Charge"), and finally the OnePlus 2 and Apple iPhone 6 (no fast charging technology). Putting aside the logistics of the test, which you can read in details on the original article, here are the noteworthy results.

These Leaked Photos Sure Look Like Verizon's 'DROID Maxx 2,' AKA The Only Moto X Play We're Getting In The US

Just last weekend we heard some rather convincing (but unconfirmed) rumors that the reason the Moto X Play was conspicuously absent from Motorola's US store was that Verizon's long-standing relationship with the manufacturer would result in an exclusive phone. Today we've been sent some photos that look like the real deal: a mid-range phone that mostly matches the Moto X Play, but with Verizon and DROID branding. Say hello to the Motorola XT1565, presumably coming to market as the DROID Maxx 2.

WhatsApp has been going through multiple iterations in its "beta" channel, which gets distributed on the service's website, while its official Play Store version was stuck for several months on the same number. This means that all of your friends and relatives who never manually grabbed apks are now on the same page as you when it comes to WhatsApp's features.

First up, there are new emojis. This includes skin tone variations of many pre-existing emojis, which are accessible through a pop-up.

Koush makes a lot of neat Android apps like Helium Backup and AllCast, but what's next? It's a thing called Vysor that will let you easily control your phone from Chrome. An early beta of the app is available in the Chrome web store, and it's already surprisingly solid for something that isn't even done yet.

Google Settings' Help Page Has A Bizarre Floating Window Interface

Filed in the category of "things we just noticed" is a pretty strange interface element discovered in the "help" interface of Google Settings. When opening an article, users can tap a "full screen exit" icon in the toolbar to trigger the little floating window seen above.

The window is reminiscent of the one found in YouTube, where users can collapse a video and keep browsing, but this window can be moved up to the top of the screen as well. Sliding it to either side will dismiss the mini-window. Here's a quick video demo:

There's no doubt this element seems a little out of place in Google Settings, but my first guess is that, functionally, it would serve a similar purpose to YouTube's mini player - if a user is following step-by-step instructions in a help article, they may want a fast way to switch between the steps and the app that they're dealing with.

Report: Most Of The Original Google Now Team Left The Company Prior To I/O This Year

Google announced a new feature of Google Now at I/O this year called Now on Tap. It hasn't been available in any of the Android M developer previews, but it looks like one of the more exciting things to happen to Now since its introduction in 2012. Most of the original Google Now developers won't be around to see it, though. According to Re/code, many engineers that helped make Google Now a reality left in the months before I/O.

[Deal Alert] Grab An Extra Aukey Quick Charge 2.0 Compatible Charger For Just $7.99 ($8 Off) With Coupon On Amazon

Almost everybody knows by now what is good by having a device that supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 standard. It will charge...quickly. With Aukey's QC 2.0-compatible charger going for just $7.99, or half off of the full $15.99, after a coupon code on Amazon, you can grab one without feeling its toll on your wallet.

That's even cheaper than the deal we posted just days ago for $10 each, which was quite popular itself.

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Roar 2 Review: A Killer Successor To One Of The Best Speakers I've Ever Heard

Back in June of last year, I took the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Roar for a spin (and loved it). When Creative pinged me about the Roar's successor, I naturally couldn't wait to get my hands on it - and with a tagline like "Smaller, Lighter, & Sexier," I hoped that it would be even better than its predecessor.

Spoiler: it is. This thing is legit. And for a starting price of $170, it's hard to deny that it's one of the best speakers around right now.

Appearance and Features

From an aesthetic standpoint, the Roar 2 looks a lot like last year's model. No surprise there, really - what would be the point of completely changing the design and keeping the same name?
